So, I shouldn't need to use --retroarch --core fceumm or /bin/nes in the command line ? It will work with the default emulator ?

Without using retroarch and fceumm, how do I get the Doki Doki Panic to flip sides of the disc to play the game ?
Yes, you don't need to add anything to the command line.

When you add FDS games to Hakchi, it should automatically create the following command line, which takes care of the disk flipping with any button press:

--guest-overscan-dimensions 0,0,9,3 --initial-fadein-durations 10,2 --volume 75 --enable-armet --fds-auto-disk-side-switch-on-keypress

Here's me hoping that the console is hackable. I did not buy the NES mini as I had those games in other platforms but I pre purchased the SNES mini and I hope it is good with those games that need SFX chip. Plus I also like the SNES controllers way more than the NES ones. Oh well, time will tell.
I have no doubt that SFX games will work great on the SNES Mini, the SFX chip is one of those chips (like N64 and many others) that is hard to reverse engineer for coders who don't know the inner workings and have to rely on trail and error. Nintendo has all the schematics so I am positive it will work out. Besides they are heavily promoting the console on Star Fox 2 alone, it would be weird if those games wouldn't function properly.

I can't really see any games I'd want to add to it to be Honest, it won't fit a full snes library so pretty pointless.
The only games that I'd add would be Pilotwings, Chronotrigger, Final Fight, Bill Lambeer's Combat Basketball, and NBA JAM. Don't get me wrong. I loved the SNES when I was a kid, but there was never really that many games, compared to the NES or Genesis, that I wanted to play.

That's the best thing to come out of this. The custom emulator Nintendo is including should HOPEFULLY be able to perfectly emulate the Super FX 2 chip. Perhaps some reverse engineering can be done to improve snes9x and the like.

Chrono, FF4, DKC2, Mega Man X2, TMNT4, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and it's perfect. Maybe some sports titles to flesh it out - Tecmo Super Bowl 3, Super Tennis, Ken Griffey Jr. Presents MLB, NBA Jam TE.

Personally, I'd drop SF2T: Hyper Fighting and replace it with Super Street Fighter II, like Japan has.

You only want to use the /nes/ command if you want to force FC/Nestopia and/or you're using a zipped ROM. If you want to use kachikachi, include the original .nes or .fds ROM (not a zip) and keep the command line as-is.

I have only three FDS ROMs on my system: Doki Doki Panic, Super Mario Bros. 2 (aka Lost Levels), and the Japanese version of Legend of Zelda. Each work perfectly on my system with kachikachi. I can't say the same is true for all FDS games.

I only have the single fds game, Doki Doki Panic. And I just checked the game folder and it's a simple .fds file.

Concerning sport titles, a title that is internationally appealing is NBA Jam TE, besides Americans nobody gives a shit about Tecmo Bowl. With only 30 titles on the NES Mini, Tecmo Bowl on the NES Mini was a huge waste of space in PAL regions. Super Tennis for SNES was a great game though and if I am not mistaken one of the earliest games if not a launch title on the system. Overall I agree with your list of games that are missing out. Thanks God I can play those on the NES Mini. Aren't we going a bit off topic here?? ;)

A little. It is a disservice to EU fans that the same system goes out to both US and EU. For instance, Japan gets Super Soccer on the SFC, but EU doesn't. Super Soccer was a launch title in Europe for a good reason, so leaving it out of the EU SNES is questionable. Nintendo went through the trouble of making three different models of the SNES/SFC Classic, so it's too bad they didn't tweak the lineup for Europe too.

I didn't realize until now how inappropriate it was for Tecmo Bowl to be on the EU NES Classic. Whoops :D

NES Classic - CRT Filter Hack HMOD (Many people's determination helped make this great thing happen!)

quick question. In order to install updated hmods, do you have to uninstall the old ones ? Though, I'm guessing that since they're probably different things, installing the new ones won't just update them, right ?

Yes but even if it is not an updated hmod and you broke RA for some reason because you are messing around with the settings, you shouldn't overwrite the old files with the new ones. There is no such thing as updating hmods without uninstalling first. It might work for a while but sooner or later you will run into conflicts and then the only way to fix it is through FTP to delete config files and other junk in order to fix your Mini. It is like this since the day that hmods were introduced.

For sure, uninstall the old. You can potentially have both old and new installed at the same time, causing conflicts.

Play the Genesis or SNES version. Or, you can try the updated fceumm core that I posted in my mega thread. It is in retroarch hmod. Didn't test. But, Beauty & Beast has slight chance of working with the updated core.

I tried these updated hmods, but they didn't seem to work for me. The nes/fds games seemed to work just fine, but none of the arcade games would play. I tried, I think, Genesis game...or maybe SNES games, and kept getting C7 errors....whatever that means. I ended up uninstalling everything, putting the nes classic back to original shape, and then reinstalled the original hmods that I had been using. Now, every game works again. I DID install the CRT retroarch hack, and that seems to work great. So....I think I'll just stick to what works for me. Who knows ? Maybe, if I'm ever bored, I'll try the updated ones again, making really sure that I'm careful about it all.

Though, I spent 5 months trying to find one of these and got lucky. Couldn't replace it at cost......meh....

I haven't played much with my NES mini for some time, now when I like to play again I need to update the RA's hmod but I don't remember which hmod I installed before.
Can I somehow check which hmod's that are installed on my NES mini? Or do I have to guess?

For the record, C7 generally means core not installed. It can also happen when you flash too high in Mb and have a ghost core. You see it. But, it does not function.

You may have one of a few reasons why updated cores do not work for you. They have worked for a majority of people, thus far.

1. Using old hakchi2

2. Not properly uninstalling previous HMODS.

3. Not having retroarch hmod installed.

4. Security conflict (refer to my access denied video).

5. Memory conflict (flashing too many Mb in games.

6. Command lines wrong.

7. Master Bios not installed for systems dependent on them.

8. Incorrect rom sets.

I would suggest you do the following.

0. Use hakchi2 2.17

1. Uninstall all HMODS

2. Uninstall Hakchi2

3. Delete temp folder from hakchi2 directory.

4. Flash custom & Original Kernel

5. Flash Games

6. Install retroarch hmod plus others.

Try the updated snes 2010 as a starter core. Then test others. I have had over 50 people test these cores, of which only 2 had issues which the above steps remedied.

Keep me posted:)

You should be back in current hmod action, soon enough:)

which button changes sides of a disk if I can't change it without retroarch ?

I generally run them all via retroarch. And, a majority use the simple R1 to eject, L1 to flip, R1 to insert, just like in my FDS Test video.

Retroarch settings, quick settings, load core.

Or, while connected to hakchi2, uninstall module option, while system is properly situated to be read.

It took me a while to realize that the idle screen on the NESC with Mario and Luigi is a reference to the idle screen of the Nintendo FDS screen.
