Well finally after still using gateway ( yes i know gateway...) tonight i decided enough was enough and jumped into BS9... got through the installation was booting fine into home menu then going on to section Vl of finalizing setup i noticed Godmode9 didnt boot so i opened up the readme. It stated to rename godmode9 to X_GodMode9 for chainloading purposes. So once doing that then putting the sd card back in i now have a dead 3ds the blue light comes on. Nothing comes on either screens and after 2-3 seconds automatically turns off. And now trying to put sd card into my computer it now prompts me to "format disk" before continuing... any help guys ?

Background info

Old 3ds XL was on 9.2 now 11.4 using luma 8.0 BS9 v1.2 i did also notice at one stage somehow it booted into my gateway emunand because it loaded a few games i had on the home menu

Cheers in advance for any help / advice.

Looks like your card got corrupted, you may be able to recover the files with a recovery tool like Recuva or GetDataBack (the latter is paid but I find it works better and I'm sure you can find a free copy ;)), don't format the card yet or data may be lost.

If you hold the Select button does the Lima config menu come up, or did you not copy boot.firm to ctrnand yet?
That's the section i was up to :(

u need the boot.firm on the root of the sd card or that blue light on, then off will happen. it won't happen if u have boot.firm in the ctrNAND though, so after performing that step, it will be a nonissue.

just put boot.firm on root godmode9.firm in /luma/payloads/ hold start on boot. put boot.firm in ctrnand and you should be good. also copy the luma folder to /rw/ so that if you need godmode9 or something without sd or so youll be ready.

get any sd card you can find. you only need to boot the console so even a 512mb one will work. also i would (edit) *NOT* recommend recovering from a corrupted sd card as it can have side effects. always make sure to make backups of stuff.

essentially you just need to boot it up so that you can launch gm9 and put luma in ctrnand.

i would recommend formatting the sd card as unlike computers recovering corrupted data on a console is really risky.

yes, the files u need to boot up the console can be recovered by redownloading them. it doesn't sound like the sd card got corrupted during the b9s installation which is good.

if it doesnt boot without an sd card it just means you need luma on it (since its not in ctrnand) thats all. if that doesnt work then you have an issue.
edit: this message didnt send for like 15 mins for a 500 gateway error wew.

If he doesn't have any save files he cares about then yeah it's probably better to start over. But if he does then he should at least try to recover his installed games, he could always dump the saves and wipe the SD once that's done.
