Gaming No Pikmin 4 at E3? F-Zero for Switch?

An article from Eurogamer that dates back to 2015 confirms Nintendo had Pikmin 4 in "very close to completion" status so it's not as if the game isn't already ready (maybe it's not for who knows why). It's just a mystery that they're keeping this in the dark.

Metroid Prime 4 was finally announced and that's great but Nintendo still keeps on neglecting the F-Zero series, for those of you who remember the last F-Zero game was released 14 years ago and that's honestly a really long time.

If there was a time to announce a new F-Zero then it would have been during E3 but it's now over for this year. The Nintendo Directs are just too niche to attract a wider audience and this ain't a game just for a few to play.

they could have referred to Hey pikmin as pikmin 4 before finalizing the title. As much as it would be nice to see another F-Zero, I'm not sure if the consumer base is big enough, though the tracks in mario kart 8 was a nice treat

I thought about that but "Hey! Pikmin" isn't developed by Nintendo whereas Pikmin 4 was and intended for WiiU so you know, as a full-fledged home console game experience.

I do not think we will be seeing a new F Zero anytime soon. I want a new F Zero as bad as the next guy, but I am not optimistic. Here's why. After years of watching, playing, and following Nintendo games, I have noticed a few things. 1. Nintendo always played the "underbid" gambit when creating a new hardware. But that isn't super important to this argument. 2. Nintendo creates games with existing characters but with new mechanics. Take a second to think about it. You will have a hard time finding two games in a Nintendo franchise that play the same, without some noticeable mechanic tweak or change. While at their core Mario games will always feel like Mario games and Link will always feel like Link in the Zelda games, but between those games you will almost never get a "sequel" game to a Nintendo franchise game.

Take something like the Mario franchise. SMB3 had the tanookie suit. SMW had an overhauled map system and the cape. SM64 was the first foray into the land of 3D space with a whole slew of new ideas. Sunshine (while the jumping into paintings dealio returns) changed things up a bit with FLUUD and the tropical setting. Galaxy is the only exception to this rule but the exception is an exception. SMG2 was actually supposed to be DLC for SMG1 but there was so much of it, the team went ahead and released a whole nother game (bless their dear hearts). I don't know if I am explaining this well, but I hope some of you get what I mean. If you want a bit more info on what I am getting at watch this video. My argument is not air tight. You could argue that there are games like Pokemon that only change with new pokemon and some peripheral mechanics, and I would agree. Same with Metroid for the most part, but we have seen how long that series has gone into hiding... My only counter point is that Nintendo lets other companies handle those games for the most part, even if they are exclusively Nintendo franchises. Anyways. Sadbortz, cause I would love an F-Zero S(witch) game.

Oh and if that doesn't salt your onions, Nintendo asked Burnout developer Criterion Games to make a Wii U version of its long-dormant F-Zero racing series. (early 2011)

Kind of see what you mean, especially when it comes to Zelda. I do think there are true sequels though, just not always on the same platform. Metroid and Metroid Prime both were followed up with two games that felt like actual sequels.

SMB arguably got FOUR sequels that could all be labelled SMB2, I think. It needs to be seperated from the 3D Mario line here. Development on Doki Doki Panic likely started out with Mario in mind (which explains the POW block, Koopashells and Starmen present), but Miyamoto switched it to something else early on because of the deal with the television network and they deemed it too different from Mario Bros at that point already anyway. So they created that true sequel we later got as Lost Levels; however, the USA/PAL regions got DDP reverted to its original Mario intention. Both do not feel as a real sequel, as Lost Levels changes too little (we'd call it DLC now), and SMB2 feels like such a different game (though good in its own right). However, there WAS an actual entirely different team working on a spiritual sucessor; Super Mario Land. It has a mushroom, it has a flower (which doesn't turn you into fire Mario, but still). Also notable here are the vehicles and its own princess. This must be the true sequel to the original Super Mario Bros in many ways. Then, Mario Bros 3 didn't drop far from SML in time, and this was of course not made by the SML people, so in that regard it seems like Super Mario Bros. 3 is also a direct sequel, creating the idea of additional power ups (and shoes to ride in?). Then came SMW with a different power up and Yoshi. Lastly, there was SML, incorperating many stuff from SMW, before the original series branched off into the Yoshi & Wario series.

To sum up;
1. Super Mario Bros.
2. SMB2 (JP) / SMB2 (USA/PAL) / SML / SMB3
3. SMW
4. SML2

I can't even remotely describe how glad I am that THIS never let to an actual game. Criterion ruined Need For Speed for me as soon as they stained the name of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit by making their own interpretation of it with crash cams and takedowns... Followed by the next name theft that I don't even want to talk about, because the only game worthy of being called Most Wanted was made in 2005.

Who knows what they would have done to F-Zero...

Interesting. I have no love for NFS personally, but that is an opinion I have never heard before. I don't usually play "realistic" racing games (read: racing games that are not karts full of cartoon characters), but my one exception was burnout revenge. I love burnout revenge specifically, and would have given a few organs to see criterion develope a. For zero title.
What did criterion do that you disliked?

They might have tried to make and finish pikmin on the wiiu. Then the switch worm started. So they said they would port it over. And probably doing the porting they decided to add and change alot.
I kove pikmin and cant wait for another. I just hope everything is done right.
So ill willing to bet we will see one probably next year. There wait for the 3ds pikmin to make a bit of money then they will talk aboit it
