So im upgrading my pc, but a main concern is that my power supply will just fail as soon as I start it up because its only 450w. Thats why im coming here for help, im upgrading from an i3 540 3.07ghz to and i5 6600k Skylake, the difference in wattage is 18w.
My full pc specs are:
GTX 750 Ti - GPU
i3 540 - CPU
6GB 1333mhz - RAM
450W Power Supply from EVGA
GA-H55M-S2V as the motherboard(I know I have to upgrade that to use the i5)
and thats about all.

I dont really know tbh, because when my power supply failed I brought it to a local city shop as I wasnt too happy to open my computer and rewire everything, how would I find out?
Do you know its name or model number?
Looking really quickly online, it seems most of EVGA's 450 watt power supplies are 80+ Bronze certified, which means they typically have at least 80% wattage efficiency.

Do you know how much total watts your PC uses right now? It's fine if you don't, we can calculate it quickly.

that cpu uses a 1156 socket
you will not have to change the board because it's a i3 or i5 or i7, you have to change it because you are moving to a newer cpu that uses a new chipset (skylake uses 1151) you could get a first gen i5 for that pc

you also need to get ram, skylake uses ddr4 (in intel website it says it also supports ddr3L, not sure what that means but i do think it's for laptops?)

the site doesnt let me select 2 monitors that are different sizes, it only lets me select 2 monitors that are the same size
The monitors don't affect your PSU wattage calculation, and even if then only minimally. I don't really know why they're on there. Select two of the same size, shouldn't make any difference.

it's only there because a gpu using 2 monitors will suposly use more power (to render both screens) or maybe it's just for statistics lol, it doesn't matter, but for the closest thing just select a monitor with the same resolution

Recommended PSU Wattage:311 W so I guess this is it? it will be alright?
ok anyway i just checked on nvidea, that gpu will draw 60 watts, nvidea reccomends a minimum of 300
so you most likely will be fine.

ignore the people that get 1000-1500 psu watts for their gaming computers because they are dumb.

double check the ram compatibility on the new motherboard you get, but most likely you also will need ram because either way your ram is probably normal ram and not the DDR3L (wich is a lower voltage version)
anyways, a stick of ram should be like 30-50 bucks, get the cheapest you can for now, doesn't make much a difference

ho yeah, K processors don't have coolers included... get the i5-6600.. just means you will not be able to overclock it, it's the same thing, but it does include the cooler and it's cheaper...
if you are on a tight budget get the normal version...

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.
