New Atari 2600/Sega Genesis Consoles & Handhelds Announced

The Nintendo NES Mini has come and gone but what's in for those who wanted re-releases of their favorite retro SEGA and Atari consoles?

AtGames might have listened to you since the company has announced its Fall 2017 lineup of classic gaming hardware, including new premium HD versions of their classic gaming consoles: the Atari Flashback 8 Gold and the Sega Genesis Flashback. Each console includes a selection of built-in Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis 16-bit games, respectively, as well as 21st century-esque features, including wireless controllers.

These consoles along with additional products, including the Atari Flashback Portable Game Player and the Sega Ultimate Portable Game Player will be available at all major retailers in Fall 2017. However, no word about the pricing yet.

I am 100% getting an Atari 2600 for the lulz. But no warlords as it probably won't have paddles :(

The audio quality is pretty terrible, compatibility issues, video quality isn't anything good either and the overall build-quality is downright mediocre. AtGames relies on stupid, moronic customers who think their products are good because of the likes of Nintendo's Classic NES.

To be fair, they existed long before the NES Classic (unfortunately).

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if they sold more units as a result of it, shame someone who cares hasn't taken up the license.

So yeah, after doing a smattering of googling, it looks like AtGames have been making retro reproduction consoles for a while now, both handheld and home, and there's at least one 2015 article corroborating your claims.

we had like 2 or 3 of theese versions already.. i remember one of them was released like in 2008..

the fun part is that they don't only come with bundled games you can plug your cartridges on it... i still have some cartridges around in my house

Not that expensive to buy the paddle controllers second hand though.

I wouldn't buy any of those consoles... I mucher rather stick to emulating that on a PC.

And for those that were leaving wondering "there's that brazilian repro one, by tectoy" this one also suffers from audio problems (no yamaha and z80 chip, sorry), some games actually run a little faster (no motorola 68000).
So most folks are better with an original hardware + everdrive and a revision on the board (switch old capacitors with new ones).

Yeah, as mentioned these are pretty poor quality. I wanted one of those Genesis ones they make, but found out they're utterly awful quality.

If the Atari 2600 one is at least somewhat ok and not stupid expensive I might get one of those, but I'll be avoiding everything else.

Their Atari 2600 is what caught my eye actually :) That controller :O

I'm one of those stupids that bought a Genesis (Megadrive) from them, because you could actually put in a gamecartridge :)
But you can forgive me from buying it, cause it was on sale for €4,99 and for that price i couldn't let it in the store :D

Yeah, sound is a bit crappy, but not that bad and most cardridges play fine, once and awhile you get some gfx glitches in some games, but, not so bad it gets annoying.
It's perfectly fine to let my kids play on it to get that gaming feeling that i had, i don't want them to play on my Megadrive I with MegaCD I and 32X fully region modded with multibios
or on the MegaDrive II with MegaCD II and also a 32X fully modded with MultiBios and 50/60hz switches!
