For the longest time, Pokemon Box's GBA emulator has been broken in Nintendont. Because I don't have the Ruby or Sapphire cartridges to even attempt to fix it, I used Dolphin and what knowledge I have to create patches to skip the link cable checks, this made it possible to test many things, allowing me to fix adventure mode. But what if you wanted to give adventure mode a try on hardware that isn't compatible with the link cable? Yes, the Wii U.

Using a modded version of nintendont, I can redirect the save data directly to the storage device, and this is also supported for the more generic GBA emulator that Nintendo used to distribute demos, but it's only tested on the version included in Interactive Multi-Game Demo Disc v16, so to use it as intended, you should extract it from there using Dolphin.

The generic emulator is way more compatible than Pokemon Box, but still only supports 2 save types: SRAM and Flash, while Flash works for Pokemon, it doesn't work for the Sonic games, so lots of SRAM or Flash patching is often needed.

You can find the patches here.

Does this offer anything over existing emulators? Probably not, though on Wii, it can play FFIV's intro without audio stutters unlike mGBA and gpSP. The generic emulator also took me by surprise for having so many hidden things that make it comparable to other emulators, its scaling code is capable of oversampling, so you can get sharper results than the GB Player's disc, have a look:

For understanding more about how these patches work, I've prepared a video that shows off known versions of Nintendo's emulator, and the various things you can do to it.

Also shared this, it's a main.dol patch for the NTSC-U version Pokemon Box. It allows going into the "box" mode without the link cable, it's not used for playing, the point is that this part of PB is still broken in Nintendont when you select the option "go to list," with it one can use a USB Gecko to figure out where in the code it's crashing, and it'll help figure out how to fix it. Curiously, this is broken in DML as well, but not Devolution (of course...)
