Hello guys,

I bought a 3DS at launch and never touched it after that again, it has version 1.1.0-0E on it.
I will be gone from home for a few weeks and the only thing i can take with me is my 3DS for gaming, but I have not even the slightest idea how I can install multiple 3ds and DS games on one SD card to play.

My questions are:
Which stuff do I need to buy?
Which firmware do I need?
Is it even possible to have DS and 3DS games on one SD card and play?
How do I do this firmware upgrade if needed?

Im a noob so please dont use difficult terms :D

3ds.guide :)
You can then use NDS Bootstrap to launch some Games (Nintendo DS and DSi) (not every one works)
and Freeshop would be an Option.....

Follow https://3ds.guide. I think you'll need a game to update you to 4.x or 6.x plus a DS flashcart. Or, a game to update you to 9.x and a game that will give you access to homebrew (as you won't have a Web browser or a compatible version of the sound app). But follow their instructions.
Edit: for DS games you'll always need a flashcart - the DS emulator has too low of a compatibility to be more than an experiment really. Plus it might be N3DS only (not sure).

Can you cart update? If you can, do so.
Then tell us the version. DO NOT update through the settings, that demolished the chance to get a CFW for your games

Also, tell us the version after the cart update (if you can)

@GameFreak348 do not listen to this, you'll make your life very hard if you update too far. SoundHax will not work for you. Follow what the guide says to do.

I'm gonna buy animal crossing new leaf, since its a 4.5 game.

another question: I can launch the games from the SD card right? I dont have to buy a special nintendo 3DS cartridge with a little chip inside that I have to put it on there?

Ah, good point. I thought he needed to cart update since the guide doesn't show anything for 1.1.0-0
Yeah it's a bit unclear - the dashes mean there's nothing for that firmware, but it says you can cart update to move up the column. Something I have a problem with in the guide is that SoundHax won't work on an 11.x console that's only been cart updated, but the section for 11.x covers both columns, which might lead people into thinking they can cart update to 11.x. When in reality they are going to need Ocarina of Time plus a PowerSaves, or something else.

That's ANCIENT!

For DS games, you'll need a flashcart or TWLoader, I prefer flashcarts.

For 3DS games, you need to dump them or get a ROM off the internet.

Yes, but you will need a DS flash cart with 3DS support on 4.5 for MSET (see the guide)

Look for another thread with the same questions, someone actually wanted to buy a launch 1.0.0 3ds for collection/research.

Oh, play. Thanks for the clarification! :D

Due to my current living circumstances...
Or join us in 2016 with CIAngel and freeShop :-p
...Sadly this is not possible. I only have access to the internet at school, and while I do take my 3DS with me, it hates the district's wifi login page.

Well I halso have a launch Nintendo DSi with version 1.4.3e.

If I buy this for the 3ds, I can play any ds and 3ds games on it right? http://www.videogame.ch/NEW-Team-Revolution-R4i-Gold-3DS-RTS-fuer-alle-Firmware-V3-Revision-2016
Yes. Well, you can only play DS games using that, not 3DS games.

For 3DS games, you can install them directly to your SD card, by using CIA files from "backups" and cart dumps.

If you're interested in dumping cart games as CIA files, you'll find the relevant section for it here:

You were providing advice for other users though :-p
You can access the internet even if there's a login page if you have a laptop as well - I don't understand how it works exactly, but I think you change the laptop's mac address to be the same as the 3DS then connect to the WiFi, then when you turn off your laptop and turn on your 3DS (which has already saved the WiFi profile of your school) it will connect automatically because it thinks you've already accepted the terms and conditions. There could easily be a mistake in my description and certainly detail missing but it might give you an idea.
