You should try out either any derivative of Ubuntu, or be on the edge like me and try Opensuse!
I'll give a +1 to that openSUSE suggestion. OpenSUSE needs more love!

What, nobody's suggesting Gentoo?
I always try to use Gentoo and just always HATE the flagging system. It's not a bad distro, just the software handling isn't very friendly and just obtuse for the sake of being obtuse.

I'd say any distro, although I recommend either Ubuntu or Arch (or Antergos if you want to install Arch using a wizard instead). The desktop you will want to use to make it feel like Windows is Cinnamon. Antergos allows you to install the cinnamon desktop from the wizard while using Ubuntu will have you installing a different desktop and then you will have to manually install cinnamon later. Also anything based on Arch will have the latest versions of the software in it's repos, while Ubuntu's repo has outdated software that gets updated every 6 months or so.

I am just going to give a slight push for Solus Linux. I've been running it for 3 weeks now and I fucking love it! It's new and doesn't have all the software for Linux. But the repos have everything a desktop distro can ever need and the devs are always open for suggestions if you want to see something added.
Seriously, I've given quite a number of suggestions to them and they've added every game I've suggested
