Hardware Ultimately, how powerful is the Switch GPU?

They're pretty close and pretty far at the same time.
They have userland so they can experiment more, if they manage to crack Switch's security and bypass most of security [ARM TrustZone etc.] then it's a big win for them.
But we will not see that anytime soon, even with userland exploits.
For sure, it's probably a year or two before we in the public see anything (if ever).

It's all perspective. People have become metaphorically blinded by their obsession for the superficial.

I bought the switch to play zelda botw only, because I can easily afford it, any other games that come along are pure gravy. I'm still enjoying Lego and Disgaea. When I get bored I play games on my pc. If I need mobile gaming I go back to my switch.

Like those people that complain about every little quirk. "Oh no I got a scratch on my switch." Fuck off.. What are you going to do, keep it in a glass fucking box and never play it because it might get a scratch on it?
Maybe be concerned if it was a $100,000 watch. But then if I could afford a luxury watch would I give a fuck if it got scratched? Probably not. I would wear it to enjoy it. My perspective would be different than someone who couldn't afford to waste money on such things. If you can't afford to waste money on a switch, maybe you should concentrate on food, clothing and shelter first.

If I had a classic car or supercar, would I keep it in a bubble? No, I would drive the damn thing and enjoy it. Would I complain that it gets shitty mileage? Nope. That was to be expected. Just as I expected the switch to be weaker than my pc and consoles since it's a mobile gaming system. I have better things to spend my time doing than complaining.

Seems a lot of people on here are incapable of gleaming any joy from anything other than pissing and moaning on some insignificant forum thread. Do I care? Nope. Go ahead and piss and moan, if I get tired of reading it I can just go enjoy my switch.

Problem is, when I come back it's always just the same regurgitated shit over and over. I guess that was to be expected though. Everything that could be said about the switch has been said. Nothing new has happened yet, it's only been a month afterall.

Because 1-2 first party games a year leaves a lot of free time to bitch while they wait on last gen releases.

No, it boils downs to if the hardware isn't current, it doesn't get current games from third parties.

Care to explain why the 3DS, being weaker than Wii U and all other consoles, got more games?

Thats a nuc chip, not comparable to the desktop chips.
A benchmark is a benchmark. It operates different, but if in comparison it's close thats still pretty good.

If they put an actual dedicated GPU on the switch oh man, that be insane. But the battery usage.

I would, because I've never cited that Switch's antiquated Dorito would stop it from getting mountains of shovel-ware no one gives a shit about. I've said that Switch's 5 year old processor would keep it from getting robust third party support and current gen titles available on every other platform.

Because it will and that causes game droughts.

You do seem to care, seeing how you keep coming and replying to those bitching about the console.

Do you imply that the 3DS library is just mountains of shovel-ware?
Great, if it is like in the 3dS then I will just enjoy my "shovel-ware", I love it actually.
Also, if it gets a "game drought" like the one that the 3DS had during its life, I am totally ok with it.
I understand you don't like this "shovel-ware", but as a grown up you can see other people like it and actually they know what they buy and buy it on their own will.
Now, again as a grown up, you will realize that you do what you like, others do what they like, and everything is alright, because there is no ground for discussion there.

What the hell do you people expect a mobile device to have, a freaking GTX 1080?!
Bro, have you not seen the mini-sized GTX 1070's and 1080's already?

And considering even the Fury X GPU and its HBM were altogether smaller than the die space of a 980 Ti (and probably a 1080 Ti), one could absolutely fit a high-end GPU into the physical space within the Nintendo Switch Tablet. It'd just probably have to run at super low power mode in portable mode. But if the 1080 Ti is already as good as it is, and even the standard 1080 doesn't need 200+ watts to operate at full blast, then... I dunno, maybe someone can make a portable water loop mod for the Switch.

You're not including the price factor here, a 1080 on the switch would put the costs up to +500 $

It is impossible to have a Switch with that hardware and keeping the price less than 400-500 dollars, so that's an instant cause for failure right there. It is what it is. If people are dissatisfied with the hardware not being to their expectations, they should get a laptop instead.

or GPD Win, almost same price as Switch but has Windows on it.

Yeah but it's pricey as hell though, and Chinese tablets are shoddily built, usually, have little to no customer support, long shipment periods, and the firmware is usually crap. Even a non-gaming laptop would fare better for most emulators IMO.

Unlike other chinese stuff out there, GPD Win doesn't atleast feel cheap in hand.
Hm, even a Windows tablet will do it's thing for emulators and is way cheaper than Switch or GPD Win.
But still, nothing will beat a non-gaming laptop, since it has it's own cooling and better parts in it.

I just don't trust them in general given their piss poor customer service track record, minimal support on forums, if you get a POS, good luck getting a refund, that's all I'm saying. If people want them that's fine, people have unreasonable expectations for the Switch, it is what it is, and is meant for Nintendo games.

I'm not saying the switch is terribly bad. After all, it is going to get Skyrim Enhanced Edition which does require pretty powerful setups. Not to mention, the batman games. So yes, I believe even KH3 in UE4 could make it there.

I know for sure I'd love to see Metal Gear Solid 4...

There is no confirmation on which version of skyrim they are porting. At this point it could be a port of the original game for ps3.

If they were already getting cosy with NVIDIA for the Tegra CPU/GPU combo, Nintendo could easily have worked out a favorable term to get a stronger dedicated GPU in there as well, and maybe even an internal SLI going.

What good is a laptop if the game(s) you want to play aren't available for it?

But at the same token, what good is the switch going to look when its battery won't even last an hour with its current configuration, and won't even keep a fluid experience in the games it's meant to have made for it?

I certainly hope it doesn't get such support I have no interest in bad ports of third party titles I bought a switch with the hope of a handful of exclusives.
