Homebrew New3ds XL black screen after system update

Ok, so this is what happened: After having updated the system, the n3dsxl rebboted, but then only black screen showed up. After waiting for more than 10 minutes, nothing happened so I turned it off. I tried removing and returning the battery and sd card but nothing happens. I tried to update the arm9 and luma to no avail since of of the steps involved removing the sd card and turning the unit on again. It didn't work since the unit just flashes blue, but then fades quickly. And whenever the unit is supposed to reboot, it doesn't do it and just turns off or hangs.

Unfortunately, I have no system backup for the n3dsxl. I tried searching around the net and one post said that maybe I don't have sysnand_original.bin that's why black screen occurs. I don't remember what firmware the unit is on and would want to attempt to reformat my sd card as a last resort.

I'm sorry for being a noob, and am humbly requesting assistance from the community. Thank you.

it's going to be difficult to help with little information. what luma did u try putting on the sd card? 6.6? the blue light going off means it can't find arm9loaderhax.bin .

It has arm9loaderhax.bin on the root. I attempted to put the latest luma on the unit. The unit actually updates properly in the past even if I did not connect it to the adapter (It's always more than 90% battery capacity when I update). I really got unlucky this time. Sorry for the little info since I really thought that the update would be successful.

Go into your sd card, and delete firmware.bin in the luma folder

I'm not sure what else to suggest. normally, I'd suggest reflashing the NAND. can u get into luma's settings with select?

u can probably boot into hourglass/godmode/decrypt 9 with start. u need a copy of an old NAND backup though, so it won't do u any good. it's good that luma comes up, so something must be wrong with the luma version ur using. u need 6.6 for 11.3.0-36 (the latest firmware). otherwise, u'll get a black screen as ur describing.

@Giodude @godreborn I tried overwriting the old luma (6.0) files with the new luma (6.6) files and then it went back to life. I cannot believe that it really worked. The system version is currently 11.3.0-36U. I know that words cannot simply thank you for helping me with my predicament. If I could only buy you two a drink, I would've done so. Thank you very much.

Oh by the way, Pokemon Sun and Moon has software updates available. Should I update them? Am I going to experience my black screen predicament again if I updated my games?

hold start as the console is booting up to get access to hourglass/godmode/decrypt 9. all three of those can backup ur NAND. it's pretty much self-explanatory.

Hold Start on boot up to open Hourglass9. Go to sysNAND options then backup sysNAND.

You can update your games just fine.

yes, this will also save any games u've installed since the tickets r installed to the NAND.

@godreborn I see. I thought only system files would be backupped.

the ticket must be installed to the NAND or the content won't appear on the home screen. if u try to launch the game with fbi, it will error as well. it won't matter if the games r on the sd card if the ticket is absent.

You should have mentioned you were on an older luma version. The newest luma builds work with 11.3, as stated earlier.
