Can't say i've noticed a power drain with DStwo to be honest.
It is a significant power drain. Not to mention, it doesn't matter if you're using it or not. As long as the cartridge has access to power it will drain power, because the DSTwo's CPU is always active. Even if the console is in sleep mode.

I honestly find that hard to believe. I've had my DStwo in my 3DS for months while playing CIAs and then had it out for months while playing sun. Noticed no difference whatsoever. If there's a drain it has to be really small. This is a N3DS though.
got any sources about it? would love to read about it in detail.

I personally don't own a New 3DS (and frankly, if I did, that'd be even less of a reason for me to spend on a DSTwo), but it is significant enough that people complain, especially for the older DS systems and even the o3DS as far as I've researched.

Oh, also, some complain that it gets hotter (because of the CPU of the DSTwo I suppose), which makes sense.

I've no clue how it behaves on a sleep-mode New3DS, though. It should be similar, but the New 3DS does have better battery life than the older models, so it may be less noticeable.

Frankly, what I hate most about the DSTwo is the price when looking at what it offers for it.

Wait, are you talking about DStwo+? because DStwo was really cheap.
No. DSTwo. Really cheap? Wut? A decent R4-like cart is like 10€, the DSTwo was nowhere near that price.

Its what, $40? And old dstwo was $30 or so, thats the price of one used gba/ds game or one meal in a restaurant.
It offers not-great emulation and battery drain. It's not worth it. In my opinion, anyway. I'd rather use a 10€ R4 for DS and 3DS emulators for the rest, or an EZ-Flash IV for the GBA games (for the DS/DSlite and my GBAs). The EZ-Flash IV is not the cheapest cart in the world, but its performance in GBA titles is significantly above DSTwo emulation,as are 3DS GBA VC injections.

Imo its worth it if you want to play SNES games or cheat/use savestates in gba (really helps in FE, SRW and some other games). But well, to each his own.

Emulators can be convenient as old3ds with CFW can't run SNES and GBA on CFW lacks any settings or savestates
I used blarg for years on o3ds before getting a n3ds and it ran full fps with only minor issues and that other snes emulator, I forgot the name, ran any game blarg had problems with. And the 3ds can run any gba game natively on cfw, dstwo will decrease the performance.

The performance in comparison to the price, though.... SNES doesn't run *great*, and GBA isn't amazing either. Of course, cheats/savestates are nice features, but I'd personally rather edit the save manually if it means I can keep performance.

Yep, blargSNES runs well, even on o3DS. Was the other one PocketSNES or CATSFC maybe?

I replied on this thread. Answering the question of THE OP.

As such, my reply to why not the DSTwo was in context.
as such your reply to the op was in context nearly every other post you have made in this thread has been to put down others suggestions as if your opinion is the only one that matters want proof see here #9
notice how you attempt to end his satisfaction
. . . for a guy who does not want an argument you sure seem argumentative
More than that. I can also use the EZ-Flash IV in a GBA/GBA SP/GBM. Also, it plays GBA titles far better than the DSTwo.

The DSTWO's emulators are very far from perfect. As such, someone with a DS Lite who wants to play SNES may get a DSTwo, and it will not be anywhere near perfect. Same with GBA titles. Getting a GBA flashcart for a DS/DSL is a far better option for GBA games. A regular R4 will run DS titles fine.
And if you want your handheld to be portable, you certainly won't use the flashcart that uses the most power of them all. lmao.

There's little point to using something like the DSTwo at this point, as its emulation is not worth the power draw and performance.
Would you rather have a bad performance, but "keep your emulators all in one flashcart"? Well then, suit yourself. In the meantime, I'll be using the R4 solely for DS titles and enjoy the 3DS' superior emulation and the EZIV's superior GBA playback.

emulation is not perfect via any of these methods is my point. as long as you can play what you want to via your chosen method who really cares if something like 6-9% of games have issues (most of which graphical and not gamebreaking in ds2's case). . . let me simplify if the goal was perfection i would play gameboy advance and not gba roms, i would play super nintendo and not snes roms ect . . .
... At this point, you're just attempting to win an argument without any real reason.
. . . get your "superior" attitude out of my face please jackass just because you think my point is moot does not mean i have no "real reason" . . . but apparently (that is if patterns hold true) you will miss my point anyhow (as its not your opinion) . . .

...That "proof" was my reply to a person who asked in this thread "why not the DSTwo". Thus, I replied in context. The OP has a New 3DS, for starters.

I throw those words right back at you. You sure are hypocritical. Welcome to my ignore list.

OP I would get an r4 3ds rts, it's runs ds games with settings and save states, and use emulators for snes and inject for gba games. They're cheap and don't drain battery.

was $70-80 here is a recent listing at our overpriced sponsor site http://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=135
Yeah. $55. Wow, incredible. Still not worth it, for an overpriced piece of plastic that breaks games by patching them (poke @skawo ) and drains the battery. Official VC is far better than DSTWO plugins. The R4i Gold 3DS RTS runs Wood R4 / YSMenu and doesn't overheat, for only $15.
