So....MAME roms can actually create a save state but if you go back into the saved game it either glitches out or the music/sound effects are gone or are glitchy as well.

I might be oblivious, but is this well known? Is it fixable?

The problem everyone is having it seems like..with all the hmods added to retroarch.....the kernal is getting overloaded. I myself have 15 cores..music hack hmod, and now overlay hmod. I tried 3 times to install new hmod ( overlay ) and my music hak..and got a message saying " Kernal is too big ". I got it flashed, but with 4 attempts. I think the retroarch software needs to be fully incoporated in hakchi gui, or it is going to get worse with all the hmod files being released. Or there is a cache somewhere for hakchi that is not being released between each test and flash. They need to be one instead of two.

Yeah, I think a lot of people agree that it could be a cache overload issue that crashes the system. If @Cluster or @pcm720 can duplicate the c8 and c2 issue by loading 15 hmods and going in and out of folders. Adding the new overlay.hmod as well (this could be an issue). They may be able to fix it. Knowing exactly what is causing the C8 and C2 can lead to the solution. Let's hope it's an easy solution like cache flushing.

So I installed some MAME roms onto the system. On my controller if I hit a button a black and white config menu pops up. It reminds me of the retroarch menu but it pops up while the game is running. You can change which button to bring this up as well.

Bottom line is that it is very annoying. Anyone know how to disable it? It's a menu where you can change settings in the game, to the controllers etc.

It happens everytime you press 'R2'. You can go into 'inputs general' to change this button to something else. I'm not sure what button you could map it to, perhaps plug in another controller, and map it to that one. :) That way you won't hit it during a game.

The sad thing is, next time you power on the system, this setting will be lost. I don't know how to make it permanent.

FYI games that should be run with snes2010 and not snes2005...

Super Mario All Stars + World
Mortal Kombat 2
Tactics Ogre
BS Zelda Third Quest

Feel free to add to this list as a PSA.

DK Country series all play, but look worse on 2005 than 2010.
A Link To The Past has distorted sound effects on 2005 (that is, if you remember how the original game is supposed to sound. You'll notice the difference from 2005 to 2010 in certain areas).

I'm very back and forth on the two versions. I have run both, once at the same time with command line changes for certain games. I am back to just 2010 right now because the 15 or so games I have played for more than just 10 minutes all feel better on 2010. Since I only have 142/300MB used, I have the space for the large (bug caused) save states...it also helps that I am not looking to save more than 5 or 6 games. For some that is an absolute non starter, and I get it. It's unfortunate that some have to make a hard choice with respect to what core to run.

Hi,

I've successfully installed 47 extra NES, 37 SNES, 13 N64, 4 MEGADRIVE and a couple of GBA roms. They all work fine (did not test them all but Street Fighter Turbo, Zelda SNES, Mario 64 etc all work.

BUT
I've installed 2 Neogeo games, mslug2 and puzzle bobble (17 and 8mb). When I start these games, it goes back to the mini nes GUI.

I've installed all cores incl fb_alpha..

Any tips?
Thanks
I just got metal slug 1 on and metal slug 2. You have fbalphaneo core? You also need neo geo bios file folder. That has to go in the same game folder that each metal slug are in. And did you change the commands for those games?

I actually mapped it to the select button on the controller. But you're right, the setting is lost every time I turn the console off. At least it's on the select button and all that button is used for is to add more coins.

Hello,
I have problems to add some games to my nes mini.
The driver installation was fine, but when i add one or more games and start the nes mini, I have still less than 20 games in my list, but instead a weird game entry called MAR - ZEL:

I don't know what to do.

I've read through as much as I physically can, and also the faq thread. There seems to be conflicting answers to this and I still can't work out a fix so I figured I'd post.

I can't get in game saves to work for SNES or Mega Drive/Genesis games. Nor can I get suspend points to work. They do work with my NES games, including the ones I've added. My folder structure is as follows:

Home menu (with the 30 original roms in)
/Emulator Settings (contains RetroArch file only)
/Mega Drive
/Folder 1 (~20 MD games)
/Folder 2 (~23 MD games)
/NES "2.0" (i.e. Additional NES roms I've added, ~20)
/SNES
/Folder 1 (~22 SNES games)
/Folder 2 (~24 SNES games)

Suspend points etc work on all NES games, even those I've added. They don't work for SNES or MD games though, nor do in game saves. What am I doing wrong? The folder within each console contains less than 30mb of roms each, and there are no periods on the file names except for the extension (e.g. ".md"). I know I could technically use the RetroArch menu to save, but this is bugging me as others have it working without using that method.

Anyone able to help with this at all?

I don't see the problem here. If it's too big, don't install all 15 hmods at the same time. Use two (or more) transfers to do that.

NESC GUI knows nothing about these cores, and nothing is written to cache until you launch a game, and even then everything is removed when you exit RetroArch. There's nothing to fix.

I also have non working metal slug 1 an 2 (brings me back zu menu). I made a mistake but i'm not shure which.
Are you using fb_alpha or fb_alpha_cps2 and what ist you command line for this two games? I importet both cores from last release. Not shure if it's necessary to change the command line, i nonly have /bin/zip /usr/share/games/nes/kachikachi/CLV-Z-IFRGS/mslug.zip
Wenn adding this two games, a windows appers which ask me whick file i want to import. Have you selectet all or just import as archive?
Have you importet the bios (neogeo.zip) as a game and sortet in in folder structure to the neogeo games or have you copy the hole neogeo.zip to hackchi\games\CLV-H-..... (neogeo games). Since last release, th neogeo bios should only be needet once.

@pcm720 Several people (probably over 10 at this point) on reddit, gbatemp, and github are experiencing the c8 crash on different versions of hakchi2 when they overuse the system. Going in and out of a lot of folders, checking games. It can happen after 15 to 30 minutes of testing. This leads to a c8 and c2 on restart. A well respected modder, MDFMKanic believes it could be the cache. We honestly don't know though.

As you said, it may be something different. We are all trying to figure it out and come up with a fix.

Is it expected a few fixes to correct the C8 ERROR when sailing too in different folders?

The famous one that empties the RAM dynamically?

And as you said, it probably is cache related, so don't go jumping between folders for 30 minutes. On reboot the mini empties the cache, I don't see a problem here.
