So I'm still on 11.2 from an A9LH install done in December. IIRC when 11.3 came out it broke a few things (HBL?). It sounds like that's sorted but just to be sure, what are the things I should update? HBL? FBI? Also I read there's weirdness with Luma's clock speed adjustment on N3DS with the 11.3 version of... FBI was it? Has that been resolved?

I wouldn't update. 11.3 gives you nothing and breaks things.

Typical. No one sticks to the question. Only this guy did. Good on you man.

Thanks. TBH, I also did this to someone who really wanted to use RXTools with a EmuNAND, and he actually told me his experience with here.

This is the reason why i said "Um, no." to that guy who said "A9LH and update".

The healthiest option is always to answer a user's question first, and then go the extra mile by providing a different solution that might be beneficial to him/her.

What we tend to see is the original question is always ignored, and just propose their own set up:
"Gateway sucks, just use cfw then install CIA"
"Cfw x sucks, just use luma it plays everything"
"Don't use emunand just install a9lh and update sysnand"

I find this to be very ridiculous in the scene. 3ds scene is far the worst I have seen from all the consoles I have been involved with. I find it disrespectful for example to go to rxTools thread and just troll there when it actually was the first cfw out there that didn't require gateway. Lots of other examples like this exist in the scene.

Why not present a user with all available options and in the end state your opinion on what you think he should use, instead of just shoving one certain method/cfw down his throat?

I haven't lost all hope in people though. I saw a change of heart from several users lately trying to behave in a way aligned to the above, in hopes to have a better community. One example would be reporting what has been broken to cakes cfw after 11.3 when some people stupidly believed it was dead (no official words states this). These were fixed within 24 hours.

The point is, you like a certain something? Good, and I hope you can work with the community to make it better. But there is no reason whatsoever to put down anything else.

Sorry for the rant :P

The rant is fine. Sometimes, you need a rant if things get out of hand.

Also, have you heard of Margen67, AKA "A9LH master race" and "menuhax peasents"? Yep, he's the main star of this action. Without him, this issue wouldn't even happen...

I hope people listen to your rant and actually take what you said into consideration before yelling out random stuff.

He was more of "The guy who (liked) every single post on gbatemp" before that. What he did with NTR was stupid, but I disagree, things went to shit WAY before that (cfw vs. cfw, cfw vs flashcart, etc..)

And the funniest thug about all this is that you aren't even limited to just one. You can use all of them together!

Was going to quote several posts, but it looks like they were all addressed. I'll just leave a summary:

Either booting into the recovery menu and cancelling, or deleting pending titles with FBI, does the same thing (temporarily gets rid of the nag; stays gone until the titles are re-downloaded again).

To make it permanent, I have never heard of this update suppressor, but ok. Sounds good. Another option is to block Nintendo's servers in your router, or manually set DNS to go through a couple of IP addresses that have already been configured to do that for the community (you'll have to search for 3DS dns... I don't have the time or bandwidth right now). The down side is that this blocks the eshop as well. Street Pass and Spot Pass will still function though.

In addition to the few VALID reasons why someone would want to NOT update to 11.3, there are also those who prefer to use a Gateway for Cheats.

it certainly does. so if you do not want stuttering and keep online to a minimum (like most of us because let's be honest: the 3DS is not a real online handheld), then you can easily launch ctr-httpwn before your games and stuff.

btw: if you keep your 3DS in standyby all the time, then ctr-httpwn is only needed once at boot. that's it.

You still haven't answered to the question: What games and provided conclusive proof that it's a thing. Because I've never seen anyone complain about stuttering on 11.3 besides on OOT and even on OOT it supposedly happens during cutscenes only. Just because you say that some games have stuttering on 11.3 doesn't make it a fact unless you can prove it.

Whether he has or wants a9lh is off topic
This is GBAtemp. There are always multiple ways to attack a problem, because Nintendo and other companies have multiple ways to counteract our solutions. If you want to stick to one solution and never deviate, then that solution HAS to be the one where you use the device as intended by the manufacturer. Not so long ago a Gateway was needed, and now it's a pretty terrible idea to use one at all.

Of course I may be biased because I was recently involved in a thread where it sounded like someone planned to throw away good money by doing some hardware tinkering that would certanly end up destroying the console he intend to purchase (and a software hack may have been sufficient), but any attempt at clarification or more details were rebuked by the OP as off-topic.

11.3*
Which games? I have yet to experience this. Oh, and Luma did fix this in the nightlies.
Um, thanks for reminding me.

I'll just go and make a pull request for SaltFW.

Or at least link to information that backs it up. Otherwise it's simply rumourmongering at the same level as the .gif pronunciation debate.

just because until now we only know of one game stuttering, doesn't mean there are not other games having the same problem.
the 3DS library is huge and not everybody measures FPS while gaming and has the ability to find out that it wasn't stuttering on 11.2 (therefore making 11.3 the culprit).
so, by not gaining anything in 11.3 it is a no brainer to me. one ctr-httpwn boot at launch every year (yes, 3DS stand by is utilized by me the way it was designed to be used!) does not hassle anyone at all. done in a few seconds!

As expected, your "11.3 causes stuttering in some games" is nothing but fearmongering and utter bullshit. If you can't back it up then don't make claims like that. One game stuttering, only during cutscenes, is hardly worth of a "Don't update to 11.3 - it causes stuttering in games" which is the point you're trying to make. Just because no one's running an FPS metter and going through game by game doesn't mean there are other games with stuttering. Besides you don't need FPS meter to see stuttering .. if you can't see it without fps meter then it's not stuttering.

Or at least link to information that backs it up. Otherwise it's simply rumourmongering at the same level as the .gif pronunciation debate.

And there is his "proof". OOT has it so other games must too - they just haven't been found yet .. Don't update to 11.3 .. causes stuttering in games!

*facepalm*

That has nothing to do with what I wrote though. Like I said, the original question has to be answered first, THEN present alternatives that you may think is better.

Each method has it's flaws. Including a9lh and CIA installations.

People are different, some might just be looking for a setup that works, while others might have specific requirement.

In any case, the whole point is that the original question is not answered by anyone except the guy quoted. They only offer alternatives

Ops... fixed :O

Soo... is it .gif as in "gift" without the "T", or as in "Jiffy" without the "fy"?

In any case, the whole point is that the original question is not answered by anyone except the guy quoted. They only offer alternatives
Huh? It was answered correctly twice by TWO people using 2 methods. And I had them both in my summary :teach:
