Is there a MAME tutorial anywhere here......for version 2.13e been looking everywhere....Maybe there isn't one?
___________________________________________________________________________
I made one a bit ago, and posted on the forums here. I copied it again for you, hope this helps a bit.

MAME2003 SETUP:

Here's what you do
(I put all the files needed in one spot for convenience in installing mame):

1. Install the retroarch module first (retroarch.hmod)
https://github.com/kaz321123/Mame-Support-Files

Download and put this folder (retroarch.hmod) into user_mods, and install the module from the Hakchi2 menu>Modules>Install Extra Modules.

2. Install Mame2003 Module (mame2003.hmod)
https://github.com/kaz321123/Mame-Support-Files/blob/master/mame2003.hmod

Download and put this file (mame2003.hmod) into user_mods, and install the module from the Hakchi2 menu>Modules>Install Extra Modules.

3. Then let's say you want to play pac-man (you know you do)...
Download pac.man.zip here:
https://github.com/kaz321123/Mame-Support-Files/blob/master/Mame2003 Roms/pacman.zip

Pull the pac-man zip into the hakchi2 program, choose 'import as archive'.

On the command line, put this (or something similar-your directories might be slightly different): /bin/mame2003 /usr/share/games/nes/kachikachi/CLV-Z-OYAEV/pacman.zip
(a space needs to be after 'mame2003')

If you need mame samples, you can install 'bios_images.hmod' (In case sounds are missing in some games like Donkey Kong or Galaga.)

Mame 2003 uses Mame romset 0.78.

If you need more mame2003 roms, download the torrent I provided. The torrent contains 44 GB, but you can choose to download only a few if you wish.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thanks so much.

Hello kaz; just one more question; if i want to add 2 or 3 more mame roms to the mini do i have to load the whole game set that i have again? or there's a way to just load the extra games we need. (i'm using the custom folder option) i have a folder for nes games another for SNES and other for mame roms.
thanks

The answer is: yes-you have to load it all again. :P

Sometimes when I'm testing out roms, I will deselect all of them, and then just pick the ones I want to try. The install is quick and easy when I have like 1 or 2 roms to try. Deselecting roms is kinda a pain, tho, the games lose their folder assignments. Next time when I want to have my whole set back, they are in the 'unsorted' folder.

If I want to ADD to what I have, I have to load them all again.

Right now I have to restart my nes-mini 3 times to put 97 MB on it. I can't imagine what it is like when people have close to 300MB. Rofl!

How do you add MAME ROMs when there are parent and child ROMs? For example, I want to add Pac-Man (US), but in order to so, I have to include parent ROM Puck-Man (Japan). Another one is adding Gradius (US), but I have to include parent ROM Nemesis.

Do I add the child ROM as an archive into Hakchi, and include the parent ROM in the same game folder, or is there another way?

HELP!

1. Playing Contra Force with Cluster's default retroarch, the early level is very laggy. Any solution? If the answer involves changing/editing command line, could you please add quotations between the referred line, about what needs to added and where it should be added to.
2. Any recommendation of good Genesis/Mega Drive games that only use A, B, C buttons only? I don't have any classic controller yet, so there's no way to map X, Y, Z buttons on NES Mini controller.
3. Still about Genesis game, if I map buttons on one game while playing it then save it, should I do another mapping while playing another game? I had my Aladdin mapped, but when I played another game, the Select button did not seem to replace any of A/B/C function.
4. I tried replacing "folder_back" icon in "folder images" with another icon, but I still have the old icon showed. Did I miss something?

Thanks in advance.

On pac-man, I just put the puckman roms inside of it, and it loads just fine. What you say is true tho. :) You want me to construct you a gradius? (with parent rom files inside) :)

It depends on your tastes. If you like sports games, my favorites are NHL '94, NFL '94, Road Rash, World Series Baseball (32X version). Platformers, you have Earthworm Jim 1+2, and Ristar, which is an underrated platforming classic made by Sonic Team. Sonic series, obviously. Shining Force 1+2 are good action RPGs. If you like run-and-guns/hack-and-slash, then the best are Thunder Force IV (aka Lightening Force), Contra: Hard Corps, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Golden Axe II, Gunstar Heroes, Mega Turrican, Shinobi III, Streets of Rage 2, Strider,

So do you just put the separate ZIPs in the same folder, or do you add the individual files from the Puck-Man ZIP into the Pac-Man ZIP? I'd appreciate that, thanks!

156MB, I have to resync it 4-5 times, I have forgotten now as to how many times I have synced up the mini. ;)

Okie dokie..I was at work today and my better half went to the city to a pawn shop and bought what she thought was a classic Wii controller. But when she brought it home, it was a knockoff controller. It is the same as an actual Wii controller, but it doesnt have the Wii logo on it, and I plugged it in, and no work.Any suggestions? Wil this somehow work , or do I take it back ?

( She went to a pawn shop because all the stores in this area in the city dont stock them anymore)

Edit: I just saw online that it is a
Classic Controller for Nintendo Wii

Take it back. They don't use the correct voltage or something, and don't work. You can still find OEM controllers on eBay. If you want to pay extra, I recommend the Club Nintendo SNES/SFC controller, but that's if you don't need analog sticks, and have around $80 to blow.

Thanks ! Appreciate the answer. I was going to invest in the wireless controller system anyway. Just something to get us by in the meantime.

Hi guys.
Is it possible to use the following games with mame2003?
"Space Harrier", "Rad Mobile", and "Valkyrie no desentsu".
These 3 make me return to the selection screen ...

From the list referenced here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet..._0ZuvRVEMqlfQyTVetnOJvuJc/edit#gid=1744967714

It looks like Space Harrier works fine, Rad Mobile does not work, and Valkyrie no Densetsu seems to work.

Sadly this is only for referencing Raspberry Pi version of this, but based off same core. Technically it should react the same.

What are the best N64 games to put on the NESC?

I assume someone has tested some that run well and others that don't.

I have 007, Mario Kart and Mario 64 right now.
Adding the analog controller update and was going to throw on a few more.

Do either Zelda's run well?

I only want to try a bit the analog controller solution... I try Mario64 ok, works like a charm... But then I put OoT... until I get Deku Tree I don't stop:D

I have 314 mb. It's like 7/8 sequences lol also that's why you should copy and paste your whole hakchi folder and only make changes and tests in 1 of them. All folder assignments etc still saved in other copied hakchi. All sitting waiting just to be resynced!
