A donor rom is a rom with working saves, like Mario Kart DS. That game works with saves, while Tomodachi Collection doesn't work with saves.
If you run a game that doesn't work with saves, with MKDS already set as a donor rom, the game's saves will work.

Press SELECT on MKDS, and touch "Set as donor rom".
