Just install it once and run instead of original emulator...

You understand me wrong. I mean that method to select and start game from RetroArch shell is not good. It's better to install games in separate folders and start them with RetroArch using original shell.
i want to understand what your saying here but i dont. Ideally retroarch is in the background. I load up roms (regardless of system). Retroarch is the emulator or choice, selects the appropriate core and you play (nes, snes, gb, etc).

Hi, thanks for this program. I do have some question about it. I got a mini nes and it works easily on mine but tonight I tried to hack a friend's mini nes but it didnt work. Any ideas what happens ?

I dump the kernel, add the games. Look like it was working but we open the mini nes there was no games uploaded in it ... Very weird

The only think I have to say about my friend's mini nes is that its an europe version ? Could this be an issue ?

If someone could help me it will be cool. Thanks a lot

Nope, the nes classic are the same versions, are you using the same PC for hacking the nes? You can try using a fresh hakchi2 program in a different folder and follow the install instructions from start for your friend's console.

You think that it's not good to run any games (snes, gba, smd, etc) from main menu just as you are doing it for NES games?

I think most of us would like for the NES classic front end to stay the same, but the ability to add some SNES, GENESIS or whatever games right in along with our NES collections with Retroarch is pretty much working behind the scenes, it may not be possible, but I think that is the dream.

I'm just gonna buy a retro pie 3 for all other emulations (I'll transfer all my snes roms, mame etc. over to that). $90 gets you everything you need on amazon. Nes mini for Nes games.

I get what you're saying, actually getting the chance to add over 600+ games is already a blessing, yeah it's cool you can add SNES, GBA, GENESIS etc. but at the 600+ games and at my age, I doubt I'd find all the time to actually play it all and enjoy all of it already without the thousands and thousands of games that becomes available once you install retroarch. So I'm with you there in sticking to just purely NES games for my mini. :)

@Cluster

Maybe I should just state my current ask and you let me know if it is possible.

Desired State (based on where hakchi is right now)....

80-100 NES Roms loaded in hakchi + Retroarch

Retroarch has 20-30 roms (SNES/SEGA)

Custom Folders - Retroarch in MAIN folder

Each folder no more than 30 ROMS

custom kernel loads, no red light staying on, all good - thats what i want :)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I think most of us would like for the NES classic front end to stay the same, but the ability to add some SNES, GENESIS or whatever games right in along with our NES collections with Retroarch is pretty much working behind the scenes, it may not be possible, but I think that is the dream.
EXACTLY! - then maybe NES folder, SNES folder, GENESIS folder, etc in the NESCE Gui (RA does it shit in the background) all games/boxart/roms are in the front end

And! dreaming here - but if we can customize the GUI settings so now your getting advanced with Retroarch settings that let us change resolution, configure controllers, etc... now your getting DREAM BOX!

I think I have like 60-90 games I actually like and play for the nes mini, most of the rest I don't care for. Unless it became very easy to load say snes emu on the nes mini with the program cluster revamped, then cool. But otherwise this machine here is all you need for everything else. https://www.amazon.com/Raspberry-Re...TF8&qid=1486697144&sr=8-4&keywords=Retropie+3

I think you should build what makes sense to you, and we will enjoy it.

You created a great interface and amazing program - - it's clean and makes sense. And you did it without having an election!

Don't bother listening to a bunch of voices on the Internet...if you listen long enough, everyone disagrees with everyone else!

Looking forward to however to choose to add RetroArch and make hakchi2 better.

People don't like it...then they can build a pi... isn't that what everyone likes to say anyways? :moogle:

This would be the ideal scenario. Essentially being able to play SNES, Genesis/Megadrive, and Game Boy games on the NES Classic as we would with any NES game through the NES Classic's front end. And the ability to utilize save states for those games as we would with the NES Classic's front end. The key is that it is easy and elegant, like a simple folder for each system that, when accessed, would then bring up all the games for that system, with a 'back' button to return to the system folders. This is just an example, and getting there may or may not be technically feasible, but I think it more or less sums up what a lot of people would like to see with respect to multi-emulation on the NES Classic.

Well worded and is likely what most people would want. I don't post too much on here, but have been following since about page 50. Will be patient for 2.12 and what ever it includes.

yes exactly, and I don't think anyone is looking to turn this thing into a full blown rasp pi, as a pi can do alot more overall, but keeping the nes classic menu look and feel while adding more capabilities and more game options is always desirable. What has already been achieved with Hakchi is incredible!

You can create separate folder for other platforms. As well as use RetroArch for problem NES games.
Too bad we can't wire a little usb drive or micro so card to increase the capacity.
Actually it's possible.

It's possible, and madmonkey's release of RetroArch had shortcuts for NES, SNES and MegaDrive cores.
You can write bash script that launches RetroArch with specific core and ROM file, and then just replace kachikachi (Exec=…) path in the .desktop file.
It's very easy to do, but considering that Haxchi2 currently overwrites .desktop file, it's too much of a hassle. That's why I went with RetroArch GUI.

So, if someone is still interested in RetroArch, I've made a new pack (and removed the previous one from my Google Drive). Now the game ID is a little more meaningful (CLV-H-RARCH), and all RetroArch files are in /games/[Game ID]/libretro instead of /games/[Game ID]/etc/libretro.
Also I've added .desktop_temp file in the "game" folder and few lines to the init script that remove automatically generated .desktop file and replace it with the temp one. This is basically a quick hack meant to bypass Haxchi2's .desktop generation.

You can download other cores directly from LibRetro's BuildBot
How to use this:
1. Extract archive contents to Haxchi2 folder, agree to replace init file
2. Copy additional cores to games/CLV-H-RARCH/libretro/core (not necessary)
3. Copy ROMs to games/CLV-H-RARCH/libretro/roms
4. Open Haxchi2, enable RetroArch
5. If you need folders, clone and build Haxchi2 from GitHub, then make sure to enable "Settings -> "Pages/folders structure" -> "Custom - show Folders Manager every time"
6. Synchronize. Make sure to move RetroArch to the root folder if you enabled custom folders in the previous step.
7. That's it.

As always, thanks to madmonkey for the RetroArch binary and Cluster for a very convenient Haxchi2.

Made a Tutorial on how to install

A: Actually it's possible.

Please, don't kidd with my feelings, @Cluster ... NES Mini + USB storage device = endless fun! How difficult is make this real?

About NES Mini gaming approach: the console is one of the "Classics" product line, so other devices will appear very soon. I think NES Mini focus should be NES games; anything beyond that is just curiosity, experimentation.

Do you think the SNES mini will have enough memory for the complete SNES library?
