I would not doubt for a moment I probably missed some of this in a thread this deep that updates pretty fast, but were the technicals behind this ever really explained?

I'm curious how this works internally on the little NES itself. It's quite interesting to see how you can create multiple folders that go A-Z, scroll through like a 100 games on a menu, and then at the end have another little icon with the nes pad and a return arrow over it. Was this all internal stuff maybe during test Nintendo used the hack has exposed, or are these added visuals and tweaks added through the hakchi tool itself and the NES CE just picks up on it?

So this made me notice something I hadn't before. I am using the latest version of hakchi2, have 215 games loaded at the default 30 per folder, and I do not have the 'back' folder as an option in my game list. Basically, upon boot you see the first 30 games and then a series of folders following it. When you scroll left there is no 'back' icon to go to the series of folders without games appearing. When you scroll to the right and enter the first folder, it loads the 30 games in that folder and you can either scroll left to get the prior folder (but not a 'back' icon), or all the way to the right to get to the next folder grouping, and so on. I have seen various videos where people are using a 'back' icon/folder to navigate. I could be missing something obvious, making this a derp post, but anyone know what might be going on here?

EDIT: Adding to this post...could it be something to do with pre-sets (which I have not played around with)?

A: There is no way (yet?) to customize folders manually since it's too easy to break something. Folders structure will be created and alphabetically sorted automatically based on number of games and number of maximum games per page (you can select it via menu). There are two styles of folder structure:
* Pages. Every page contains games and shortcuts to other pages. This style used when there are not so much pages/folders.
* Tree. It looks more like folders and contains root directory with sub-directories. This style used when there are at least 12 pages with games because shell need at least 12 items to show them without glitches.

It's recommended to limit games to 30 per page/folder if you want to keep save-state feature fully functional.

I had suggested Customized folders to Cluster when he first released this update and I just got an email back from him today saying that he is working on it... so hopefully next update may have customized folders... I just hope it is something he is able to do... I would love to be able to categorize my folders...

Did a test on English fan translation hack for Dragon Slayer jr./III : Romancia. It works partially, the title screen is glitched but once you get into the game proper ti seems to play fine.

Would it make sense if instead of asking for a specific mappper/game to work on the NES CE/Famicom Mini, have the game instead be patched and fixed to work for the system? Because I always see posts about how a once unsupported game is now working due to some patch, etc. Now, do note I am no programmer (so stop saying I do it myself), but to those who might be knowledgeable, would this do the trick and make unsupported games work on the system? Just a thought...

In some cases Hakchi2 installs required patches. I assume he can add more patches?

What I'd like to know is if there is anyway that emulator itself could be dumped, and then people could tinker with it to add more custom emulation mappers? Go beyond what Nintendo did (or whoever they borrowed code from)?

1. Creating a patch is no easy task. Doubt anyone here even knows how.

2 changes to the emulator would have been done already if known how. That will probably be the last thing we see come from classic modding, if we do at all
 
I was referring to how he has already added some patches already made, and even introduced some of his own patches into the program.

Okej so I read that if I choose maximum games per page then folders wouldn't get created. I chose 30 games per page and I got folders. Someone knows how to get rid of the folders?

The folders are there to keep it from having any problems. If you don't want folders don't put on more than 90 games or so IIRC.

Those patches he included are simply just patches that have been created in the past and were already readily available.
Actually on his faq he says he created a few of them himself, if they weren't available elsewhere. But basically they seem to be for games that used similar mappers to begin with.
