Hi there, I've been trying to put bgm but bcstm playback seems not to work for me :s updated to 2.2.0 this afternoon and after trying several .bcstms and dumping DSP again I reached the conclusion that I have no idea why it isn't working. When going to the music tab in the settings section all files show as intended, however when choosing to play a selected track and choosing one that is in .bcstm format it doesn't play at all. .ogg files on the other hand play as intended (didn't try .aac), but for some reason .bcstm files don't...

Reactions: Sonic Angel Knight
Or even better:
1: Go to http://smashcustommusic.com/11312 and click "Download BCSTM"
2: Put that .BCSTM on SD:\3ds\Data\freeShop\Music
3: Start freeShop
4: On the touch screen go to settings and then go to the "Music" tab
5: Select the "Play selected music" option and choose your .BCSTM
6: ???
7: Profit
EDIT: Try to rename the .BCSTM if freeShop doesn't detect it
I tried doing all of that but it's still crashing. It's really weird. I converted it to .bcstm but the sound quality wasn't good so I shortened it and went to ogg and it was only 2 MB but it still crashed freeshop.
Edit: I tested it with the music that came with the update but that crashed the system too. This is really weird.
I've also tested it without music, it crashed again.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled freeshop but it's still crashing, I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with my system because I've only started having this problem after the update.

You should delete (or rename) the freeShop directory and start over, something it probably corrupted. Odd.

Yeah the same thing i noticed. I extracted some BCSTM files from a cia and it never plays. Ogg plays fine, just have to try and properly loop it.

I tried AAC... except my encoder uses m4a extention so i guess it's a typo that is meant to be m4a and not aac? I dunno, either way when i tried to play that file, the app crash and exits.

Yeah, the AAC support isn't good, very limited. It's really only there to play back eShop music which is AAC encoded.

Did you download any BCSTM files from http://smashcustommusic.com/ ? I'm surprised there are a few people not getting it to work at all. I can't think of any reason for this. I know it's possible for BCSTM files to have unsupported encodings (not DSP ADPCM), however people still have problems with proper ones too...

Happened with the wii shop channel music that you linked some posts ago. Most of the .bcstms I tried were either downloaded from smashcustommusic or created by me with Looping Audio Converter

So what are the two audio files in the music folder? They have no extention. But they are the eshop music and some random pokemon remix track? :P

Guess we stick to OGG files until dspadpcm.BCSTM files and AAC.m4a files work. now if anyone can point me to some looping ogg files, otherwise i may just use the streets of rage remake files since they are all ogg and proper looping already :D

I did not download any BCSTM files. I tried the ones inside of Dragon ball z Super butoden 2 CIA file. I extracted it and it was all labeled "01 DSPADPCM.BCSTM"

Honestly i never heard of these files before, i know that super smash bros brawl had brstm files for audio, cause i ripped it from the game using wiixplorer homebrew and play them in my foobar2000 :P

I figured it was some thing related, since is BRSTM and BCSTM, seem almost the same :ninja:

a lot of 3DS themes use looping audio, and they come in OGG/BCSTM. I'd look around 3DSthem.es and use the BGM preview to find some if i were you.

Actually i'm curious, which one is the best encoding? I'm surprised is not mp3 or something more common. But again, 3DS is not native to playing that outside of the 3DS sound app.

I'm assuming that OGG is better encoded, just as that's a universal standard, whereas BCSTM is a proprietary in-game music format.

Is BCSTM a freeware encoder unlike that sony atrac3 nonsense? I figure they would use ADX since like they have been for gamecube and wii games in the first place. Not sure of many of these "Priority" encoding formats.
