If I was able to get any kind of Vita, what would be the best choice to get it with? What firmware, old or slim model, memory card size, etc.

Generally you want a slim on 3.60 already (you can update it if its before but its a bit of an annoyance as the method you have to manually update to 3.60 is done)

Not anymore, you can just use Yifan's DNS server to update straight to 3.60 http://wololo.net/2016/12/03/henkaku-update-server-easy-way-update-ps-vita-fw-3-60/

@OP, just buy any new brand new Vita that isn't the two latest colors from JP. No new Vita's besides those two will have 3.61+ on them, so you can just get whichever of the two you want. The Slim has a slightly better battery life and LCD screen, the phat model has an OLED screen.

I saw that but it just confuses me. What would be the best thing to get? I've heard of rejuvenate, Henkaku, but I don't know what has the most capability.
Hi, I know this is offtopic, but please tell me what part of the guide confused you. I am always rectifying the guide to try and prevent this sort of confusion from happening, and it would be nice to make amendments for others who are about to step into the scene as well.
I created a "Purchasing a Vita" section at the beginning of the thread not long ago now, but truth be told, the guide does have some outdated tutorials later on, designed for lower firmwares, that might spin people about, since the thread was created way back when HENkaku wasn't a thing. (2015)
Is this also something that confused you?

Thanks!

The only reason you'd want a Phat over a Slim is if you love OLED.
Other then that, Slim is the one you'll want.
Much better screen and much better build quality. The slim feels like cheap plastic compared to the OLED. I don't even know why people argue this they made the slim so they can reduce the cost of the vita, it's cheaper with slight improvements that don't mean much.

I personally prefer the Phat over the Slim.
Screen is the first up of the Phat and the extra weight (I like mine to weigh a little more)

ic so if i said i prefer a crt to a hdtv that would be a opinion aswell?

The slim is thiner, lighter, has non-propietary micro USB port for data/charging, better battery life and the stock 1GB usable memory.

The only real con is that the LCD screen is less color vibrant but unless you have both systems side by side you couldn't really tell the difference.

The resolution is the same, they both have the exact same pixels per inch, they ran the exact same games and graphics , this is not like comparing the 3DS to the NEW 3DS, using a CTR TV vs HD TV is a complete bs analogy because the tech gap between them is nowhere near the same.

It all comes down to wether you preffer all those little 2k improvements or the screen brightness.

Pull your head out of your butt buddy, YOUR OPINIONS AREN'T INSTANT FACTS.

imho: only real criterium: 3.60 or lower.

next : good price. Don't overpay. Over here in the Netherlands on digital marketplace around 100-120 euro (110-140 USD) ..Mostly includes a game or two and a travelcase.
nice to have : large memory card (min. 16Gb, better 32Gb, best 64Gb). When price is right 8Gb should be no show-stopper.

not important : 'phat' or 'slim' : when you have 1 or the other don't look back. Both are great machines.

Personally prefer slim, i had phat before, but it suffers from oled mura and straight vertical lines on the screen which is distracting. (at least for my eyes) Too bad the oled screen has shorter life than slim lcd.

With slim, at least you dont need to worry about screen burn-ins and other sudden screen degrading issues.

Your ideal vita will be system with 3.60 or lower FW. Phat/Slim is only a matter of preference.
