Ok continued messing up with it, and I am finally able to boot the NES mini, although the additional games are not there yet, at least it wasn't bricked!

Any idea how to get the past the waiting for device error? The game I'm trying to load for testing is Chip/Dale Rescue rangers
this is where i seem to be stuck too. put together like 40ish games to put on, but when i go to add them it attempts the first dump of the system and it's failing. gets about halfway thru the progress bar, light turns on on nes mini, then get 'failed to read pipe' error

anyone got a solution?

finally was able to load the games, although i have to restart the console a few times until it finally shows the game menu. First 1-2 times after turning it on i get only black screen. anybody else seeing this same behavior?

give it a few more retries. not sure if is for everyone but at least in my case sometimes the console doesn't seem to "start". eventually after few retries it did complete the flash and loaded games successfully.

So do we have to flash it every time we want to load more games?

Yes, ... maybe a easier way with next release of this tool...
Maybe a connect to an own list of games incl. Boxart.

Cause i cant google for boxart...
The hard work's been done for you. It really shouldn't be too much to ask for you to know the basic information about the backups you legally acquired.

no, you flash it only once with the mod kernel. after that you can just add games. but in my case the flash was not completing and timing out hearing back from the console

how much storage does the nes mini nand have ?
About ~350 megabytes but shell can't handle so many games.

Sometimes I got this error too. Still investigating. Try another USB port/cable.

Hi.

I developed ROM-management tool for NES Mini.

View attachment 74050

It's very-very simple to use.

Download link: http://clusterrr.com/soft/hakchi2.zip

Requirements: Windows 7+, .NET Framework 3.5

Installation not required. Just unzip and run.

  • It's very easy to add games, just select .nes files
  • You can change any game settings - publisher, release date, etc.
  • Automatic online search for boxart via Google
  • It can fix incorrect iNES headers using fceux database
  • Automatic verification of supported mappers
  • You can hide 30 default games in one click
It's beta version. Please send to me any bugreports and suggestions.

Could you explain step by step how to use your program?
Thanks!

Many people reported about this problem. I have no idea :(

Just select games and press button. App will guide you.

Uploaded new version. Some bugfixes and now you can select two players game type - simultaneously or not.
Link is the same: http://clusterrr.com/soft/hakchi2.zip
You can just replace .exe file for update.

it did work when I used the Kernel menu. Dump kernel, then Flash Custom Kernel, then upload the games

also gonna install twilight menu in my r4 flashcard

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

i dont have an sd card adapter but I have an usb sd card adapter

    For your R4

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine

but why choose it over ysmenu @Psionic Roshambo?

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card

Slightly slower loading but a bit more convenient
