Maybe it isn't the most interesting and innovative stuff - but the masses love it, and they have their qualities.

Heck, I'm voting for an HD remaster as the best game of the year... That's saying something about the releases this year.

It has to be the poketards ruining this poll, and even 2016.

I think pokemon is winning because this is a forum mostly dominated by 3ds hacking. With this in mind most people here have access to/have played pokemon sumo.

I haven't played most of the games on the list, and I'm betting most other tempers haven't either. Everyone's voting for the game s/he actually has experience with.

To be fair, if the category was more specific, like "Best Indie Game of the Year", I would've said "No Man's Sky" because it was a monumental endeavour executed by a studio consisting of some 15 developers, but unfortunately my opinion on the title is jaded as I played it pre-release, in the most incomplete state you could possibly play a video game. The latest update is essentially what No Man's Sky should've been Day 1, and even then it'd still be missing some key features.

Since my spectrum isn't narrowed like that, DOOM wins hands down because it's a perfect, flawless execution of what the developers intended that's hella fun, pun intended. I don't even care about its multiplayer which is clearly tacked on and handled by a different studio - it's there because it had to be. The single player campaign is all this game needed to win my vote. I haven't played a single online match, I don't need to - I'm satisfied.

As for Pokemon winning the poll, it's almost farcical. I haven't even bothered playing Pokemon this year because the trailers alone show me everything I need to know - it's the same old, boring, stale game with more and more ridiculous gimmicks tacked onto it, desperately trying to remain relevant.

Well, I won't vote, there are only 2 games I've played in this list, one I can't manage to get into it (Bravely Second) even if the first game is one of my favorite 3DS game. The other one is Pokemon Sun, which was good but not goty material imho. I would have voted for Mankind Divided if it was still on the list, but it looks like everyone hates this game (btw I love it, and it's prequel too, two of my all times favorite games)

Mankind Divided was significantly better than Invisible War, but also significantly worse than Human Revolution, I think that's what's the crux here. The game didn't give you enough freedom to explore the really interesting locations where true moral choices could be made, like Golem City. The whole game revolves too much around one location - Prague. It gets pretty old when all of your road trips are action segments. It's still an excellent title though, miles better than 99% of the list and definitely GOTY material, just not as good as its predecessor.

Despite having not played very much of it (less than any of the other games on the list I have played in fact), my vote goes to Tokyo Mirage Sessions - which is as much a 'swansong' vote for the Wii U as it is for the game itself ...the fact that having only spent a couple of hours playing the game, it's enough to cement it in my top 5 Wii U titles, speaks volumes.
