Hacking Is the PS vita capable of running PS2 isos as good as the PSP runs PSX eboots?

Once it's complete hacked during or after the end of its product life cycle which as it seems it's on track to doing so would the PS vita be capable of running PS2 isos as efficiently as the PSP does for PSX eboots?

I gather the architecture is completely different i guess but this thing is super powerful for handheld.

that's not how it works.

PSX "Eboots" were pretty much just injections (pretty similar to how they're done on the Wii U and 3DS) because Sony had an official PS1 emulator for PSP. Sony never made a PS2 emulator for the Vita, nor do I think the Vita is capable of doing so. This simply isn't possible.

Not only that, but Sony's PS1 "emulator" on the PSP wasn't actually an emulator. More of a virtualizer (though virtualization without a MMU can be a pain) like Gbarunner2/gbaemu4ds. Since the PSP has a MIPS R4000 there is no need to emulate the R3000 that the PS1 it can be much faster. Just compare trying to run Windows XP in Virtualbox to trying to run it in Bochs or Qemu in emulation mode (i.e. run with the -no-kvm switch).


That is not possible to do with the Vita and PS2 games since the Vita uses an ARM CPU while the PS2 uses a MIPS R5900 based CPU so running PS2 games on the Vita would require a full blown emulator.

The PS4 can emulate PS2 games. And it's who knows how much more powerful than the Vita. However, if you are dead set on playing PS2 games on the Vita, get a PC with a GTX card and stream PCSX2 to the Vita using moonlight.

Ancient =/= easy to emulate. The PS2 used a ton of custom hardware which is difficult to emulate on conventional hardware, not to mention relatively low-power conventional hardware which is in no way powerful enough to emulate something as complex as the PS2. The Vita will never emulate the PS2, period.

As WiiUBricker said, your best bet is using Moonlight to stream stuff to your Vita. Otherwise it's not happening.

Indeed, the N64 still doesn't have a fully functional, accurate emulator. A lot of games still use old jankity hacks to run at all and some games just don't work well (like Pokemon Snap that mostly doesn't work )

Thankfully there's CEN64, which is working it's way up to being a cycle-accurate emulator for the N64.

If a PS2 emulator comes to Vita it will only be as a technical test with very low unplayable framerate.

So as stated use MoonLight or maybe PlayStation Now will include PS2 down the line or you can play the PS3 remaster of ICO on PS Now - now

You also forgot to mention playing PS2 games on ps4 using remote play on vita.

But i really don't think a raw ps2 game is possible on psvita. I remember back in school when people had rumors of psp games playing ps2 games, sadly that was all fake, no way could final fantasy X run on that portable hardware that is somewhat of a watered down ps2 that mid tier between ps1 and ps2. To be totally honest, the way a ps2 game could be played is if is remade to work on it, a direct port was never in mind to emulate the system on mobile so it was never considered possible at a functional presentation.

Of course i did mention playing a ps2 game on ps4 using remote play on vita, which i done. If your wifi is actually good enough, you can do it, surprise it works well, something to do in the bathroom or away from the console.

For some people if you have the vita tv and both are wired to same network, it should least be close enough to the experience to say "This works for me" but i not tried it, i had wanted a ps4 slim or pro for the 5GHZ wifi since i cannot use wired connections in my set up. Still reminded that vita is stuck on 2.4GHZ and hope future mobile consoles upgrade it desperatly. O_O

Anyway, I doubt it be possible, but then if the doubting people are proven wrong, is all the more better to be surprised with.

Moonlight is an open source implementation of Nvidia Gamestream and as such it only works with Nvidia GPUs.

When it comes to emulation your PC's processor is far more important than the graphics card.

i think it is possible, looking at specs the ps vita is much stronger, also the ps2 is allmost the same hardwarewise as the psp and the vita handles that perfectly, the only problems i see is the button mapping and the lack of developers to bring a nearly perfect emulator
