Homebrew I'm about to Homebrew my 3DS, anyway to make sure it stays that way?

Yes, I'm familiar with Android. I've rooted most of my Android phones until recently. It's not worth voiding the warentee.

Either way, I'm going through with it. I just need to put the apps and ROMs for Emulators.
I want to be prepared so I don't have to remove my Micro SD Card later. I'm not super happy with having to unscrew the back of it every time.
I had to buy a specific screwdriver set just to do so.
you had to buy one? I just found one in my house.
If you are familiar with Android then think of A9LH as installing a custom bootloader and TWRP while menuhax+emunand is more like using towelroot plus one of those 2nd init tricks. Obviously having a custom recovery is safer than not having one.
Kind of familiar with android, but still. I tend to find user friendliness somewhat deceptive, but thats probably just me. That, and I'm used to seeing all the stuff with menuhax and such that makes me feel like the 3ds is actually hacked.

You can also install FreeShop, a free, open source eShop clone. Assuming you followed the guide to install A9LH you should have FBI. Scan this QR in FBI to install FreeShop.

Why would you have to remove your Micro SD Card? For 3DS games you can use FreeShop, for homebrew apps you can use FBI's QR code install, or just transfer .cia/other files via Micro SD Management.

Super useful. Thank you!

That's one of the reasons for this. I want to get the translated version of Fire Emblem If. I wasn't super-happy with the censorship in the Fates version.

At least in Europe, rooting doesn't void any warranty.

Also, it's definitely worth it. For me, at least.

Not sure how much this helps, but the 3DS system hasn't had an update in months. When the Switch comes out in March, they're going to probably going to drop 3DS updates altogether. So you're almost home free I think.

Cartridge games are not avaliable in freeshop (nor original eshop either). So he would still have to FTP/MicroSDManagement those to be able to install them.
Most earlier 3ds games are cartridge only.

I'm so close but this is giving me a headache. I'm trying to install FBI so I can get FreeShop but I have no idea how.
I just keep running in circles around the internet because I don't know how any of this stuff works.
Apparently I need to install something called devkitARM but I have no idea how it works.
I downloaded it (I think) but it just links to a website which I searched for instructions, just to be more confused.

If you follow Plailect's A9LH guide, you should've followed instructions to setup and install FBI to your Home Menu. You don't need to do anything with devkitARM. There should've been no headache involved, when jf you follow instructions, like you said you did, then you should've already had FBI.

...Those are your Homebrew Launcher applications. :/ Did you follow Plailect's guide fully or did you stop at the Homebrew Launcher part? If you stopped, you can't use FBI to install freeShop. Continue with the guide.

Now I'm super confused.

Okay, so I went to 3ds.guide, selected "Get Started", I clicked the picture of the Red New 3DS XL because that's the model I'm using, I picked USA, then I picked Homebrew Launcher (Browser), it took me to this page and did everything it said.

---

I think I found the problem. Gimmie a bit.

Yes, then you follow the rest of the guide by going to the links it says to go to at the bottom of the page. :/ You're not done yet.

When you're done, remember to try out holding select on boot and you must be greeted with luma configuration, like that dude has told you, that's one way to verify if you actually have a9lh installed.

Okay. New problem.
I followed the instructions to the end of Luma config.
I got a "Failed to mount CTRNAND" error.

Now, in the guide it says that if I get that error to simply continue to the next step. However the next step is to restore the NANDmin.bin by opening Hourglass9 in arm9.
To do this I have to hold START instead of SELECT.

Obviously I do as instructed and get the same error.
Nowhere in the guide or troubleshooting page could I find a way to fix this.
