Kind of familiar with android, but still. I tend to find user friendliness somewhat deceptive, but thats probably just me. That, and I'm used to seeing all the stuff with menuhax and such that makes me feel like the 3ds is actually hacked.If you are familiar with Android then think of A9LH as installing a custom bootloader and TWRP while menuhax+emunand is more like using towelroot plus one of those 2nd init tricks. Obviously having a custom recovery is safer than not having one.
