Hi, first of all, I'm sorry if this post is repetitive, and also sorry if my English is not quite proper at all I'm not native speaker.

Now, I just buy a new WiiU taking advantage of some of the deals of the last days (black Friday etc.) And I need some help on where to start with the WiiU.

I'm not new to the scene though, I have a 3ds with Luma and a Wii with Lego Indiana Jones.

I already reed many of the sticks posts like "the definitive guide..." Stuff. But there are so many things going on in the WiiU scene that I think it actually back fired me and now I have a headache. :(

It's just there are so many things and post like the DS Vc xploit, the rednand, people suggesting better a cfwsysnand, Loadiine, Brazilian method, vWii.

I need a little help on where to start (besides the homebrew channel of course :P.)

Hope to not be a pain in the ass. Thank you in advance!

First off, you should do rednand. then buy a ds game and setup haxchi for faster booting (my sysnand and rednand are linked so idk the best order of things). Finally connect a hdd to your wiiu, format it and then use the brazillian method to install titles(best done from sys config tool). Before you start, make sure you have an appropriately sized sd card (you'll need it permanantly) and a hdd with a way to power it externally.

Start with the Brazilian method then go for rednand if u want full cfw
No, he should set up rednand before installing games.

First of all, thank you both.

Now I have some further questions.

Is it save to assume that I should use Brazilian over Loadiine?

About the Rednand, it was actually my first choice since I know how emunand work, but it kinda make me worry to see some post saying is unstable right now. Any more or less safe way to install it? Also it takes the whole 64Gb for it? (It's just the emunand in 3ds it's like 1gb and it kinda surprise me the difference)

About haxchi is it necessary to buy the game? I don't mind doing it, but from what I reed it's already possible to install games with the legit tickets right? So I'm not sure if I should buy it.

Thanks!

You don't actually need to setup Rednand, if you just want to play games from USB. I installed Haxchi to my Sysnand (Brain Training DS is free on EU e-shop, dont know about NA/CA/Mexico) and installed all titles and updates to USB and only use fw.img (iosuhax) to disable sig checks for DLC content, etc.

Judging by the recent talk about a new firmware update, I'd suggest buying the exploited game (not exactly expensive at all), so you have an offline coldboot way of using the HBC without any selfhosting stuff, unless something else comes out. But for now i'd get the DS game and install it to sysnand, as you may miss out.

Thanks retro, I was actually considering Haxchi for that reason, kinda make see it like a menuhax.

Do you know if it's necessary to actually buy the DS game? Or could I just download it with the right tickets?

Thanks for the answers!

You could think of it like Menuhax. You can create folders (one for sysnand sig checks patched cfw) and the other for (rednand) and then have shortcuts (button configs) to point to them when you load Haxchi i.e "A" for Sysnand fw.img and "B" for rednand fw.img.

We got lucky in the EU, as Brain Training is free, so I didn't buy it. Not sure on downloading it and using the right ticket will work.

Here is an Haxchi guide and Credit goes to @KotuMF for it. http://pastebin.com/GfnRAF9G

My nnid is linked to my rednand....

You need to buy it so it runs on a clean machine... It becomes your gateway to unsigned code. The trick with installing disc games is because the signatures for those are generic but downloadable titles are signed to your individual machine.

There's a flaw that means that the game code can be replaced with unsigned code... Thus loading either custom firmware or the homebrew launcher.

NO NO NO DO NOT. YOU'LL BRICK. also there's no reason to buy it from rednand. Just buy it from sysnsnd. and the reason you need to buy it is because brazillian method on sysnand only let you install titles that were relesased as discs. no ds game was ever released on disk, so it can't be installed on sysnand with brazillian method.

Thanks to everyone, I think I will go with Haxchi now, at least until there is a stable Rednand, probably use Brazilian to get them.

Quick question about it, I have seen some different post with the Brazilian method, like WiiU usb loading,. And WiiU usb helper, are they kinda the same right?

rednand won't get any more stable than it is rn, haven't heard of a single brick so far (correct me if i'm wrong). And about your question, they are kind of the same. i personally use this https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-funkiiu-2-0-complete-content-ticket-python-tool.446092/

Thanks you so much, I will check that one.

About Rednand, I'm no expert, I just reed this stick message: https://gbatemp.net/threads/a-few-words-on-iosu-rednand-and-iosuhax.445953/

It basically says that we shouldn't use it right now, 'cause it was meant for developers not for the end users. And that's why is so heavy and have some stuff that can permabrick.

I mean I definitely want a Rednand, sounds awesome. But kinda make me worry not to just wait until there is a safe release.

Thank you so much to everyone that help me!
Now I have Haxchi!!!!

Maybe is to much to ask, but does anyone now a reliable way to get sysnand sig patched? (Since I'm waiting a little bit for Rednand)

Anyway thanks to everyone!

Use Dimok's sig patcher homebrew (should be in the "Homebrew" subforum)

So you think it's not really safe to use Rednand? From what I read I should wait for some Salt tools but I'm kinda new to the WiiU scene.

And thanks I will look for it in the Homebrew forum!

I'm gonna be honest, in it's current form RedNAND offers absolutely nothing that a patched SysNAND doesn't currently. Don't mess around with internal system files and you should be fine. Wait for SALT's tools and/or a separate release that has reliable SEEPROM emulation, then you should be able to use RedNAND completely without worrying about bricks

Thank you so much for your answers, I really appreciate it! I will wait and look for dimoks stuff. I really have some trouble with the WiiU scene since there are tons of new stuff and post everywhere so really thanks for your help!
