I have a new 3ds arriving December 15th.

I currently have a 2ds with A9LH and Luma3ds.

I want to be sure I'm all set to mod the new 3ds on arrival in December. It will have 11.0 Firmware

I know slowhax will be coming out eventually that will not require another hacked 3ds. If the new 3ds arrives and slowhax isn't out yet what can I do to prep my 2ds to ensure smooth transition to get the new 3ds w/A9LH.

Thank you!

I would go ahead and buy the dsiware game Legends of Exidia right now, as per: https://plailect.github.io/Guide/dsiware-downgrade.

Now by the 15th of December LoE could still be on the eshop and slowhax could been released but its not worth taking the risk.

Buying LoE & installing steel series sub wars (dont update steel) on your 2ds is the safest preparation of a dsiware downgrade transfer (worst case).

Best case your N3DS comes, you buy LoE again on it and just hack it using slowhax, saving you the trouble of dsiware downgrading via system transfer, what's another $8 afterall?

Just what I needed.

Thank you so much.
No problem :) if you end up doing the DSi Downgrade with your hacked 2ds, remember you'll have to call Nintendo to get the NNID back on the 2ds from your n3ds (as transferring back yourself wont work) but just follow this guide that was posted on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/5emau6/tutorial_how_to_get_your_nnid_back_after_using/

Last night I used my copy of Zelda Fourswords: Anniversary Edition and my A9LH o3DS to hack my friend's o3DS. In the process, I obviously had to do a system transfer and therefore move my NNID to my friend's 3DS. Plailect's guide is a little vague on how to get that NNID back, so here's what to do:

  1. Make sure you have the 3DS you want the NNID on, and you know your NNID username and email.
  2. Call Nintendo at (855)703-8783.
  3. Follow the instructions to talk to a specialist about your NNID.
  4. Say that you would like your NNID transferred to a new system and you do not have physical access to your old one. Your specialist will ask for the serial number on the back of the "new" system (the one you want the NNID on).
  5. If he (or she) asks when you last had access to your old system, just say it was last week (it doesn't really matter).
  6. After answering a few questions, you should get approved for the NNID transfer.
  7. Wait for an email from Nintendo. Mine took a little under 24 hours, but it can apparently take up to 2 days.
  8. If you try to follow the email's instructions, you will still get the error that "You cannot use this Nintendo Network ID on this system."
  9. Press A, then quickly press X and Y together and another message should pop up asking if you want to unlink the system. Confirm by pressing A.
  10. Follow the steps to use a current NNID and put in the credentials of your NNID.

You should now be linked to your original NNID without having to wait a week and make another system transfer. Just note you have to have received the email for steps 9 and 10 to work.

What would happen if I don't get the NNID back?

I have no real need for it unless it will effect the 2d in some way. Could I just make a new NNID on the 2ds if I needed one?

Will my 2ds be wiped after the transfer? Could I restore a backup? I believe my 2ds backup doesn't even have a NNID activated on it.

Basically your 2ds will have no NNID and will not be able to make a NNID unless you transfer back.

And you should make a NNID on your 2ds, then go buy LoE & download steel series sub wars (you wont be able to download them without a NNID anyways)

And you make a backup in hourglass9 (nand.bin) & a backup of the sd card before the transfer which you restore afterwards (so nothing will be wiped).

Would injecting a blank NNID and then creating a new one not work?

Yeah, if the guy isn't bothered about keeping the NNID, would that work as a way to just scrap it all together?
You wouldnt be able to make a new NNID even if you injected a blank one though im pretty sure? But yeah you dont HAVE to transfer back if you dont care for the original 2ds to have a NNID. But I would say, why not?

if I trans the NNID back to 2ds what happens to the new 3ds ? Still works as it should? the NNID will just be deleted?

What would happen to the 2ds if I don't trans back the NNID but then restore the backup to it. I would have the new3ds and 2ds with same NNID. Sounds like a bad idea.

Before you transfer back on the new 3ds make sure you log out and make a hourglass9 backup. Worst case if you forget to do that, you just need to do the last half of the last page in Paliect's guide. Once the new 3ds is hacked, it's hacked. Dont worry :P

If you dont, you'll have the new 3ds with your NNID (working) and your 2ds with your NNID (not working) - it'll say something like "this NNID is not associated with this device"

The week i had the non-working NNID the only times it came up was when i tried to go onto the eShop and when i tried to check my NNID settings. Although i never tried to play any games online... Unsure if they're affected or not.

In fact you can "fix" the error message about the NNID being already on other console by doing the following instructions. After following them, your games tied to your NNID won't be visible anymore in the home menu, but you can simply use CIAngel for reinstalling the ticket (after accessing the eShop with the NNID removed), and they'll appear again in the home menu.

Situation Not Resolved:
  1. If the issue persists for more than 24 hours, go to the system's HOME menu. Select “System Settings,” then select “Nintendo Network ID Settings.”
  2. Select “Sign In.” Enter the password associated to the Nintendo Network ID, then “Confirm.”
  3. The error message (“You cannot use this Nintendo Network ID on this console”) will appear on the screen.
  4. While the error message is onscreen, hold down the X button AND Y button, and tap “OK.”
  5. Select “Yes” to unlink the Nintendo Network ID from the system.
  6. You will receive a message that the NNID link has been removed. Tap “OK” to return to the system settings.
  7. You can now re-link the Nintendo Network ID to the system, which should resolve the issue. How to
    • Purchases associated to the system / NNID will still be available for re-download. More info

Still, I think it's a lot easier to backup your NAND, format without SD card inserted, buy LoE, do the transfer without NNID. After the transfer, relink NNID on source console, and restore NAND backup then. You're done, no need to wait a full week, nor to call Nintendo, and your NNID is intact and working in your source console.

format without SD card inserted then buy LoE? isn't a NNID required to buy LoE?

NNID isn't required to buy things nor to transfer.

NNID is only needed for Miiverse, demos and free apps and some online games. Not for buying nor transferring, I repeat.

I can say myself after doing at least 50 DSiWare Downgrades so far.

Yeah it is. Not sure what Olmectron means there

Oh really? News to me. Whats the benefits of doing it without a NNID?

Btw, you probably will get it a lot sooner. I ordered the $99 3ds from Walmart and it said arriving December 7. Next day it updated to November 26.
