Haha, the classic question Linux or Windows. Kinda looks like "pizza vs burger" or "3ds vs psvita", it is a personal preference. Well write which one you like best and why example "I prefer Ubuntu because its a stable and secure os, while windows is the biggest malware target". Which one will win?

Windows since wine has issues still

True, but I still use Wine HQ to play Kerbal Space Program 1.1.2 without any issues(performance and stability) also It is good to mention that its faster(meaning it doesn't lag and stuff) than Windows 10 because of the core of Ubuntu. It is very nice to see such an app to grow.

I run both on just about all of my laptops and desktops. The biggest argument for running windows over linux is not being able to run PC games on linux. As the prior person posted, Wine does not run well enough to run winblows games on Linux. But now that Steam is available on linux, and their game library has been growing by quit a bit, I think linux has becoming more and more a viable choice. Also Ubuntu is not the only linux choice. There are many different flavors of linux. A lot of people really like Mint with the cinnamon desktop. It resembles windows more than other versions of linux. It's also free. like free free. For those who have always wanted to try it, you can install a live version on a DVD, or a USB thumb drive and run it without actually installing it. If you end up really liking it you can install it on your PC so that you can dual boot between windows or linux. There are a lot of really nice alternatives for windows software. and just about everything in the app store is free. Also, linux runs better on newer hardware than older. Every once in a while you might have an issue where there is no linux driver for say your wifi, or bluetooth cards. But it has been a while sinse I have ran into that problem. All in all, Linux is a really nice, dope ass alternative.

Consider installing a Debian based distribution other than Ubuntu, that has Amazon bloatware installed.

Anyways, argument is unnecessary. If someone wants to use a GNU/Linux distribution, they'll find the needs for them to use it - or use an operating system of their choice.

Me too, I run Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 10 on my laptop(It is the shittiest you can buy) with dual boot and GRUB. With wine I can run almost everything in my computer and I am just installing Team Fortress 2 on Steam. The other distros as well are equally good such as Rasbian(Debian for Raspberry Pi), Ubuntu Mate and The Mint, but I prefer Ubuntu because for aesthetic purposes(pict below) and the support the community offers. Great Work Canonical.

It really depends on the usage scenario for me, I use Windows 10, Ubuntu 16.04 and MacOS Sierra.

I'd personally not want to use Linux as my desktop OS, however i do think it's great for servers and single purpose devices.
  • Windows 10 is my main OS for day to day use both at home and at work
  • Ubuntu 16.04 is what i use for our web, sql and vpn services at work, i also use it on single purpose devices at home such as devices which run Kodi. I also have various Raspberry Pi's both at home and at work running Raspbian.
  • MacOS Sierra is my laptops main OS. I did like how OSX handled multiple desktops and the trackpad is so nice to use, which is why i went for a Mac laptop originally (and the 30% student discount back in the day which made it cheaper than an ultrabook). More than anything it was a chance to learn something new also.
If you work in IT i do think it's a benefit to at least have some experience with all the major operating systems out there.

Woo, and my friend said they were useless...

Your friend probably expected them to run games at 4K 60fps...

Far from usless though i think their great value for money.

I've got one at home running homepass solution, so our 3DS's can streetpass at home.

At work I have some running Kodi in our showroom, auto playing various videos on a loop, then some wall mounted in our offices showing various CCTV feeds from IP cameras.

No, my friend didn't expect to run at so high resolutions, not even pc games. It doesn't even run well at 1080p(at least my experience), but he criticized the price tag being 40 euros the RPi 2, but still useful for creating robots, surveillance cameras, AIO pcs and stuff. I would like to have another one, Zero but its low availability make it in my country 2 times the price of RPi 3. Anyway, Keep the good work Raspberry Pi Foundation!

I didn't even boot into Windows 10 when I bought this laptop. I just boot into Linux Mint and removed Windows.
Right now I am running Solus
I still use windows(even sometimes) because I have all the major stuff, I can play Metallica with guitar in Guitar Rig 4, can use Citra to test the crap I've made for the 3ds(my brother updated my 3ds to 11.2.0), I can listen to

I haven't moved to either Windows 10 or *buntu 16.04. I'm sticking with 14.04 for the time being, and I'm not ecstatic about Ubuntu (and most every other distro) adopting systemd. I'll have to play around with Gentoo and see if it's a viable option in my future.
