[Update] WiiU Production to "end soon"

After numerous rumors and denials by Nintendo itself, it seems like the WiiU will indeed meet its anticipated end soon.

On the Japanese Nintendo website, the following image can be seen:

The Japanese text can be translated to "Production is scheduled to end soon" (even Google Translate will give you something similar).

While the WiiU's end was expected, especially with the upcoming Nintendo Switch early next year, it is a tad bit surprising since Nintendo itself recently denied rumors pertaining to the end of the home console's production.

However there is no indication as to how soon is "soon" and since it's on their Japanese website, we don't know as of yet how it will impact other regions.

Update: In a statement to Kotaku, Nintendo of America had the following to say: “We can confirm that as of today, all Wii U hardware that will be made available in the North American market for this fiscal year has already been shipped to our retail partners. We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability.”

told you never ever believe anything Nintendo says about previous consoles when a new one is on the horizon. 3ds is NEXT
Not anytime soon. The Switch is still considered their home console, or at least separate from the handheld line. And with the relative recent release of the New 3DS, it's going to be a while.

Even if the rumor wasn't true I mean logically they would still have to end the Wii U at some point b/c why would consumers have a choice to pick up a Wii U when you have the Switch available?
Especially seeing how popular Wii U titles will most likely get ported over to the Switch, Smash bros has already fallen victim to that, I can see MK8 and Splatoon following right behind it

Apparently not, as they were also able to mess up the wiiu from the beginning (not as bad Sony with the Vita though :-))

Actually, Wii U and Vita sold about the same amount of consoles. But whereas there are only 713 Wii U games released, there are 1355 for the Vita. Because the real money in producing a console comes from software licensing, that puts Sony ahead in this sad little race.

I can't believe the PS3 outlived the Wii, the Xbox 360, AND the Wii U.

'Funny' guys at Nintendo.
All rumours of stopping production were denied .. do they even know what they are doing or not?

I think Nintendo fucked the Wii U even harder than Sony fucked the Vita; not only did the Wii U sell less units, it also has less games.

I hope they do still sell batteries for the Wii U pad, mine don't last much longer than a couple hours.

do those 1355 include such hits as 'random 3$ android game' 1-500?

also, they probably have a years worth of wiiu in stock to get rid of still. or those specific versions, the 8gb basic one no one really wanted and that splatoon wiiu with the amibo figures will go out of production.

umm...end production on this model or end production on all models? Is the text that specific that it most likely means Wii U rather than this model?
