Because it's still a reason. Why opening a new one? The title says it all and I just bumped it.
There's a reasons no one has removed the sound and there's reasons no one ever will.
Plus does it really matter? Who really uses their 3DS camera that much?

The only reason is that it's now allowed in Japan by their laws. I'm not that often in Japan, so ...
If it's technical reasons (file can't be deleted without bricking 3DS or something like that) I would have been satisfied with this answer. This thread won't have 5 pages if there's "no reason". Thanks anyway for your contribution.

Just use NinjaCam or whatever its called. Problem solved.
Now that's what I've been looking for (more or less). Wasn't aware this exists since I'm new to the 3DS scene. Thank you! :)

Good idea at first, but you can only view those pics on a computer and in 2D, so it defeats the entire purpose.

I never understood the obsession with "protecting people from perverts" - maybe it's just gynocentrism or whatever. How many of these people would beat up a lady for taking surreptitious pictures of someone's chest?

Because I'll tell you what's far more important than protection from creepshots. Protection for whistleblowers or ordinary people gathering photographic or video evidence of a crime in progress. And while the 3DS cameras are pretty terrible in terms of startup time, some people don't have a phone. I do, at least. So I don't need to worry, I guess. Off-topic, I know. But I needed to vent.

Anyway, it's possible, just like 3ds-injector (included in basically any current cfw) can give you region free titles on Home.

It would be just a matter of stubbing out the dedicated shutter sound system function...

...now, who will invest time looking for that? :)

Nobody.

It's easy. Just replace the bcwavs in the folder with a quiet one. If someone could convert silence into a valid bcwav file, I'll repack the app into a .cia with Quiet Mode.

Wait, you're saying the shutter sound (the standard one, not the cat/dog) is manually implemented in each app instead of the camera driver (which does have a "play sound" function)?

LOL (but expectable nintendo practice)

which would be how NinjaCam does not have the sound.

Actually, it should be automatic with a call for the shutter, per app. I actually was just replacing the cat noises, heh.
