question?whats the best cfw rebug looks good to me but what version ? dex? cex ? also why does it say cobra ? i dont need a dongle do i ?or does it literally mean a cfw with added cobra features packaged ?
also is cfw region free ? can i run game backups from different regions eg. japan on my eur console ?

Dunno about Rebug, I've stayed away from the scene for far too long. But back in the time Rebug were mostly normal OFWs with added Debug Features.
CEX is stock PS3s, DEX Dev PS3s.
Cobra CFWs implement Cobra Dongle features without the need of an actual dongle, as far as I recall, but back then they still required some tinkering.
PS3 games were also always region free, whether you use a CFW or OFW.
Take everything with a grain of salt, I haven't mucked around with my PS3 for a few years now.

Rebug is pretty much the best.
CEX is for normal consoles and DEX is for developer consoles( or converted normal consoles).
With rebug the versions with all features are called REX and D-REX. REX is for CEX consoles and and D-REX for DEX consoles.
You'll want the REX version.
The extra features of the cobra firmware that required the cobra dongle went open source a while ago. All good firmwares now have the cobra features including the rebug firmware. They don't require the dongle.
The PS3 is always region free. The only exception is PSN content which is bound to the region of the account. You can activate PSN content from other regions on a cfw though.
I have some cobra firmwares on my thread. Its just that Rebug has built in cobra and is user friendly so I recommend that. In case you are curious using the D-REX will RSOD you. To use it you must first install REX then switch over your PS3 to DEX then you can install D-REX.

Yes. BTW once you switch over google how to switch to a DEX system from Rebug REX. DEX is region free REX isn't. Also make sure to enable QA Flag once you install Rebug. (This way you can downgrade anytime you want!

No. Also make sure you google how to switch over to D-REX after REX. I can't stress that enough. I don't want you to brick. If you want I can guide you through the process on Skype or something.

D-REX isn't a CFW. Its a lv2 patch that developer consoles use. The only disadvantage is one more step to safely go online.

You have to patch EID5 to make your CID work online every time you boot your PS3. Not as hard as you think trust me.
