Well, the microSD to SD adapters don't have any components inside, they just physically adapt the smaller card to the larger slot. So yes, a microSD to USB adapter should work.

However, there are very few USB adapters which actually work for 3ds NAND reading/writing. So if your microSD to USB adapter doesn't have a compatible chipset, then it won't work.

But in this image is: 3DS motherboard to microSD adaptater

That is the uglyest solder job I have ever seen.

And NO, it won't work because that USB hack only has some resistors/capacitors. The 3DS hardmod implies having a chip to translate from SD to USB (that is why only a few work with the hardmod)

And, as said above, if you connect it straight to USB, you'll be injecting 5V(from the USB port) on the board and NAND chip that Works with ONLY 3.3->3.7V, frying it.

You can use the micro b SD (female conector with the wires to the pads of the console) to make it permanent on the. But you'll then use only the male micro b connected to the frankenSD that will be plugged on the SD card reader (cutting the USB Plug from the cable).

To have a better Picture, see my sig (I use mini b but it's the same) and check this thread:

@cravas
I was assuming the USB interfacing circuitry was on the opposite side of the board in the picture he posted. I can't see any other way that device could work as a microSD adapter.

Yes, I also want to believe it is a microSD reader.
But for that small microSD reader (and "ugly"), it must be a cheap one, the kind that have a blob instead of a chip.

Also, AFAIK, only the SanDisk SDDR-121-A11M has been confirmed to work and that Picture isn't from it.

But even if that job was from someone (as the OP stated), that solder job.... I would be really surprised if it work's.

I agree, the soldering looked horrible. Besides, I don't know why you would want to solder hardmod wires onto a microSD adapter. It seems quite impractical. Much better IMO to use the microSD->SD adapter method.
