Emulation Hardware GBA Link Cable hardmod for agb_firm?

Weird question but would it be possible to hardmod a GBA Link Cable port onto the 3DS' motherboard?
I have an O3DS XL, and I was reading about Link Cable emulation. Sadly it seems that agb_firm (what open_agb_firm and VC use) cannot emulate it due to it basically running as though the 3DS itself were a GBA. Theoretically emulation could solve this problem but the O3DS doesn't have enough power to smoothly run GBA games(I've tried). In another thread somebody mentioned hardmodding a link port on as an unlikely possibility. I just want someone who knows a lot about 3DS hardware/hardmodding to tell me if this would actually be possible or not.

It would likely require a significant modification to the board to add on a new port it doesn't expect, as well as software mods to make it read this port. It's a massive effort to do so. Maybe not impossible strictly speaking, but would require lots of time, money, and skills to pull off.
