Hacking Wii U USB loading - install WiiU games to USB or internal memory

Does the HDD have to formatted? The one I use for vWii works well but I don't want stuff to get destroyed (or brick), same goes for the SD card.

if it was already formated by the wiiu to become compatible , u won't need to format it again i believe .

Your HDD could simply not be compatible with your WIi U. Or it is dying. Check how it works with a PC.

Works fine with a PC. I had used it for Wii USB Loaders for years.

Exciting stuff but don't really see a reason to take advantage of this yet. Only reason I would love to use this is to play the games that load super slow on Loadiine. I'll wait for Zelda TP before I jump in.. All the files posted so far by the Brazilian team run fine in Loadiine.
