A flash drive should work just tried my 16GB one and copied my MK8 that came with my console to the flash drive

ordered a Y-USB cable now can wait until 21st

I have a hard drive with a Y cable, but my hard drive keeps disconnecting on random. I even turned off sleep mode in the Wii U settings, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Your HDD could simply not be compatible with your WIi U. Or it is dying. Check how it works with a PC.

Also, can you only have one game on the sd at a time for example

1) extract rar /Rars to the root of the sd card
2) Do all the other stuff

As far as the instructions suggest, one game at a time. The files get moved to usb from a common install directory on the sd
