I don't think so. Every homebrew I've seen that would turn off a regular DS makes the 3DS reboot back to the "software closed" screen.

Whatever we can get at this point in time requires it to be DSi hardware. Taking a quick Google, it seems like the built in infrared port is a 3DS feature, unfortunately. So that's a no go.
...GBC games with an infrared port?
I see no reason why not. VC emulators run in 3DS mode, so it would have access to it.

Well, considering the current hack has unlocked SD access in NTR mode, a mode that doesn't have SD capabilities....

A lot of users says "get a pesky cheap flashcard", but a lot of those flashcards lacks of features like: Wii Connection (Pokemon Battle Revolution), WPA Wi-Fi and DSi Enhanced enable. The possibilities to get a full control of the DS(i) Mode are a lot, just think about getting a enhanced DS(i) Mode experience.

Right. Because the DSi has an SD card slot.
Yes, it would be cool, but at this point in time it's not going to happen.

I have released a new version of nds-hb-menu/nds-bootstrap : https://github.com/ahezard/nds-hb-menu/releases/tag/V0.5.0-cia-ntr-beta.6
Dldi stability and compatibility should be better (but moonshell is still not yet fully compatible).

Edit : Please re-download the package from github. I had forgotten to update the .ini file.

With the new version 6 I tested so far working:

-DSX86 (played 3 dos games with sound)
-NeoDS with sound
-Lemmings DS (long time loading but works with sound )
-NesDS 1.3c (sound is funny minor issues)
-HP11c and HP16c emulator
-lameboy with sound

-DS Master Plus and jEnesisDS starts well bur can't load roms
-SNEmulDS 0.6 almost start but seems stopped.
