o3DS -- started with gateway 3ds, made the transition to install a9lh and luma. Added the Gateway.bin as a boot option so I could still play games from the Gateway card. The last time I saw the Luma SysNAND, it was 10.7 or so.

So this past weekend, I played Zelda: Tri-force Heros in Gateway mode -- initiated Download play so I could play with my little cousins. Then continued onto play some Kirby game they had -- also download play, and then Plants vs. Zombies (DS download play). When I started up the 3DS the next time, it seems like I've lost all entry points -- Hourglass, Luma, Gateway -- I could only boot into sysNAND, as well, it looks like it's updated only to 11.0.0-33U (not the latest 11.x).

I'm curious as to what happened? As well, short of Hardmodding, are there any options to get A9LH+Luma back?

You are very lucky. If you were using an N3DS you would be bricked (O3DS might have a chance at bricking too).

Never ever update in Gateway sysNAND mode. Download play will update your console to the version of the cartridge (and maybe to the update already downloaded).

You will need a hardmod or DSiWare hax to restore your NAND backup.

Didn't know Download play also cause the system to update.....

Lately, I see more threads about GW causing problem one after another. Why GW's team doesn't fix this yet?

Who knows. I guess maybe they don't want to do work if it doesn't mean increased sales (it would just make things easier for current owners, probably won't make new people buy it). Or else it hurts their ego to follow the free devs instead of creating new things.

Is it also possible that the update was downloaded "Off the Air" from the other 3DS'es since you connected to them via Download Play? I vaguely remember that Street/Spotpassing could download an update, but I don't quite remember the details.

Some people decide to keep using it because they're OK with current setting and don't want to change.
Some people feels like they should keep using it to makeing up for the price they paid.

I understand the choice they made, but whenever I saw people get the problem from a flow of GW.
Sometimes they still can recover, sometimes they're just losing the ability to pirate, sometimes they got bricked.
It make me feel pity about them. Why would they have to face a bad situation for the product they paid for?

Well, hoping the OP can find a way to escape this mess.

Thanks for the explanation! Never knew download play had that fun little feature in there. I'll check out my options and go from there. ^_^

may i ask what does that help with?

does it help you downgrading later or stop you from bricking.

just curious.

You'll be able to restore a hacked NAND backup, even if you update to 11.1 OFW.
It's like a hardmod, except your console must be able to boot for it to work.

I'd say so, just in case you make a mistake like our unfortunate OP.
You just have to copy two files into your sysnand, you can use FBI or Godmode9 or anything. Dunno if an up to date guide has been written utilizing those tools.

Rough guide;

Get your hands on the .nds for sudokuhax, fieldrunners, guitar hero or one of the other dsiware games with exploits. The .cia won't do; however, if you install the .cia then you can navigate to its install directory and get the .app there, which is the same thing.
Get the appropriate. sav exploit.

Go to TWLN:/title/00030005/42383841/content and overwrite the .app file there with your dsiware rom. It needs to have the exact same name, 00000002.app.
Write the save exploit to TWLN:/title/00030005/42383841/data as public.sav

The DS connections option in system settings should now be replaced with the game, and be able to boot the exploit.

Btw a N3DS updated without properly uninstalling a9lh will be a brick. So don't count on this method protecting you from that.

This works even after removing a9lh to OFW?

What game did you inject? I only have sudoku, with a filesize of 3,376KB and a CRC32 of 7E5EA8C7.
Did you rename it to 00000002.app?
If you're running a CFW, does it support TWL software?

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
