The most basic way of explaining it to my knowledge is that a) the IOS(s) for Wii is a set of modules that govern specific portions of how the console software functions as the Wii does not run a formal operating system (think drivers on a computer), and b) the IOSU for Wii U is a "hypervisor" that runs security on the console and (I believe?) executes most OS functions

Basically, on both consoles they serve the same purpose, but on Wii there's a crap ton of them for specific cases and on Wii U there's one that handles everything as generally as possible
Nice. makes a ton of sense now.

This may have been answered somewhere but I can't find it.

What do you store the games on? What type and size of memory card are compatible with the Wii U? Is there something specific I need to look out for when buying a MC for it or are most OK (speed wise for example). Is it a normal SD card that is used or a USB Flash drive (pen) type?

I've read that the Wii U can only use a SDHC memory cards up to 32 GB but I've seen people on here talking about using 128GB storage for the hack. I'm confused.

Finally, could you just use an external HD or does it have to be a MC?

Thanks.

USB flash drives and external hard drives aren't possible at this time. We're limited to SD only. Pretty much any kind will work, but you're going to want at least a Class 10 card with good read/write speeds. It can definitely handle SDXC up to at least 128GB, if not more.

I've heard reports of at least 512GB working

That's something for the GBA VC wiki, if one exists... @the_randomizer?

I haven't personally tried GBA ROM injection in some time, I'll have to reread and recap on how I did it as it isn't a simple injection. I mean i can try tomorrow, but it's getting late where I am so I can't tonight. I wonder what game he used as a base.

I believe LOZ Minish Cap and Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga are the two most compatible VC games to inject into. My only question is if there's a wiki (like for N64/NDS/etc) showing what were successful/failed injects.

Oh boy, did you even read the OP?

First step would be to update to a more recent firmware, either 5.3.2 or 5.5.1.

Yes but some of it I didn`t understand. If says if on 5.0.0 then stay there. So I`m guesting I need to update through system update on Wii U.What is the most current update or do I need to update with a Wii U game or over internet. What will happen to vWii homebrew channel I got installed that plays my Wii backups and GameCube backups if I update.NO downgrading unless I missed something.

If you didn't understand it, then this isn't for you...

If I can figure out the old method then I will figure this out.Which I have.I`m just trying to find faster answers.I really only need to know what will happen to vWii homebrew channel and how to retain the Wii backup play by usb and my GameCube backups on sd and play Wii U backup at the sametime.

vWii and Wii U can coexist in one SD card because you only have to create a "wiiu" folder where you put Loadiine, other apps, Homebrew Launcher files and Wii U backup games..all in one SD card..

That`s great news. How much space will the Wii U backups take.I saw some games that are 15gigs.

By the way I`ll be updating the Wii U to 5.5.1 over internet.vWii mode will still run after update without installing homebrew channel again.

5.5.1 update on Wii U side does not affect your homebrews on vWii side, as long as your files are present on your SD card it will run fine..on the other hand, Wii U homebrew stuff only consists of a few MBs but games like Xenoblade Chronicles X takes up to about 19GB+, Bayonetta 2 around 15GB+, some games like eShop titles have lower file size, example is Child of Light which is around 2GB+ only, some even less. So safest bet would be a 64GB card if you play a couple or if you want (nearly) everything in one card, 128GB would be the best choice..but i suggest 64GB, that way, you will be forced to focus on a couple if games at a time, and be able to finish it without jumping to another game and end up with lots of backlog games, but that's just me.. :)

Thanks for the info.I have a 128sd already filled up with GameCube backups.I also got a 64gb sdhc and 128sdhc card.I have to daughters so there goes my stuff on one of those cards.I do got a 128 usb drive but its slow.I`ll use that to back my stuff off of the other cards.

After I grab a game or two and Ill try to see if I can get this to work.Time to update the Wii U.

I should have asked one very important thing.Right now Will U is blocked from updates and this exploit requires web access to run. What do I do to keep Wii U from auto updates and have web access to the exploit.
