You probably have a flaky internet connection. Keep trying and you might notice the blue bar gets further and further filled each time you do it before it errors out. If it had an error immediately then make sure you're not using TubeHax DNS or blocking Nintendo servers.

I have WiFi with 3 bars.
And I don't know for the DNS servers, I really don't think.

I had the exact same problem. You need to download a fresh homemenu cia using 3DNUS.
JPN: 0004003000008202 v27648
USA: 0004003000008F02 v25600
EUR: 0004003000009802 v24576
Install that, then reboot the system. It should work update after that. I posted about it in the 11.1 update thread but it was buried by other comments/questions.

What exactly is this about home menu modding breaking the update? I did a lot to mine, and I updated twice (tl;dr nand restore) without issues...

I don't know why it breaks the update, but from my experience and apparently others it is something that can cause the update to fail. Potentially because of the home menu being update? And I always keep an up-to-date backup when I know the system is fully working, but I deleted the one from when I didn't mod the home menu because it was so long ago and I had limited PC and SD card space.

@TheCyberQuake Your ID is not existing
I'm going to use USA as my region for my examples, yours may be different.
For USA, I put 0004003000008F02 v25600. So in 3DNUS you put "0004003000008F02" in the title ID textbox, and "25600" in the version textbox (leave out the v)

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I'm not idiot I know.
Other than what I posted above I don't know the title ID's (I haven't tested any other than USA)
