No you weren't, all you did was call a guy an idiot for saying that he saw a texting app on the freeShop. Being insulting isn't 'trying to help', it's 'trying to wind people up'.

Seen this sort of behaviour too often on plenty of other forums, it always works out the same lol.
Oh trust me, I believe you, I've seen it too. But I like to give new users the benifit of the doubt...for as long as I can, anyway.
Anyway, I know this has already been said, but I don't think there is any (currently maintained) homebrew like the one described in the OP.

Agreed @warmijwilfaain there just seems to be a bit of a flood of self righteous kids joining up at the moment, take solice in the fact that this site is a fad for them and they soon disappear.

What I use is a website called pictoswap.ajf.me it's worked good for me and my friends so far! You just visit the website in the default 3ds browser!

Pictochat? Yes, but Pictochat 3D? No.
Pictochat 3D is styled after Pictochat, but is connected to a server where a bunch of people can talk to each other at once.

No, Pictochat 3D is a homebrew application.Wonder why this is first i heard of these apps? Are they region speicfic?
Is there some thread here where everyone shares their friend codes, I just add random people off serebii when I fancy a game on pokemon, don't actually have anyone specific on my 3ds at all.

I guess, I mean so far xbox does it right, team party chat, sending messages, match making, even the avatars, which isn't as relevant but still the social features of the xbox seem to be done well compared to sony or nintendo. So any of those features like that on nintendo 3DS or even WII U with homebrew or mods may be interesting since is something nintendo may never plan to do.
For having the microphone part of the consoles, having limited games with little or no voice chat is disappointing, as well as no party chat that isn't that app on wii you where you video chat. I guess is a start. But the friend codes and "MUST BE FRIENDS" thing bugged me with match making.

You can find and chat to anyone in the world easily with a multitude of social media accounts
And you can hook up with anyone in your area at the click of a few buttons.
The world is no longer a large daunting place
Nintendo really went over the top in child proofing their products and in this day and age it's one of the things that has severely held them back from being considered a serious competitor in their industry
