Hi, i've been looking for a ps3 with cfw , there's a fat model with 40 gb hdd and a faulty controller for 97 USD , slim models with 120GB+ go for $160 more or less.

Is the fat model worth the trouble? , it has something to offer that the slim dont ?

I'd say go for it, it's not everyday you see a fat PS3 with cfw already installed, at least for me ha ha. PS3 controllers are pretty cheap these days to replace and since fat PS3s have an sd card slot that newer PS3 models lack, then the 40gigs won't be much of an issue.

Check if is backward compatible with ps2 titles if it does i would say go for it. The ps3 slim doesn't have the option to play all ps2 games. Just some of them using some kind of emulator. I dont really familiar with ps3 cuz i dont have one but i know for sure that ps3 fat 60 gb is backward compatible with ps1,ps2 and psp titles.

Avoid the fatty as they were horrendously designed viz cooling and thermal paste so there is a high chance that it may be on its last legs. Pick up a slim with CFW (Rebug 480) and it will run pretty much all PS2 ISOs flawlessly.

If however you are feeling brave and technically inclined you could open it up, switch out the fans for some better ones and install new thermal paste and it should be good to go, there are plenty of guides online but generally the older machines have quite a high fail rate at this age.
