Hi Guys, Im new to the 3ds cfw.

I managed to get my hands on a o3ds 9.4.0, I followed Plailect guide to the t, everything was going fine.

I managed to downgrade to 9.2.0, backup the sysnand and so on, the issue ive had is the rednand, I followed the steps and it seemed to be going fine, I created the rednand on the sd card, allowed luma3ds to boot it, checked in settings and it said sys instead of ver.

I followed step 8 making sure it said sys, went to system update, allowed it to update, waited for it to finish, everything seemed ok until I checked settings and it now says ver 11.0.0-33, for whatever reason it looks like it updated the sysnand and not rednand.

What did I do wrong, I can still access hbl but emunand9 and luma3ds will no longer boot.

Is my only option for a hard mod to flash the sysnand back to the 3ds.

One last thing I would like to mention, when I put the sd card in my computer its asking me to format it, when I put it in the 3ds hbl can see the files fine.

  1. Press Y to format your SysNAND (Don't worry, everything is still saved on RedNAND)
  2. Go through initial setup without linking your Nintendo Network ID, you want it to remain linked only to RedNAND to prevent issues
  3. Reinstall menuhax on SysNAND as the format will have removed it
  4. Boot RedNAND
  5. Open System Settings
  6. Make sure your DNS settings are on Auto-Obtain
  7. If you do not see "Emu" in front of the version number, then you are not on RedNAND. DO NOT UPDATE, FIND WHAT WENT WRONG
  8. Update your RedNAND to the latest version using System Settings by going to the last page of "Other Settings" and selecting "System Update" (Once you exit System Settings / SD Card Management you will be returned to SysNAND, make sure to enter back into RedNAND before updating!)
  9. As your 3DS is setup right now, you must launch Luma3DS from the Homebrew Launcher every time you want to boot RedNAND; by the end of the guide you will boot into CFW SysNAND by default instead of having to use RedNAND

It's not suppose to say "sys", read what you just wrote in step 7. Did you see the word "emu" in front of the version number?

I found this in another thread by The Real Jdbye

If you followed the guide from Part 1, your system will be set to boot menuhax when you hold D-pad down. After you press start in the Luma3DS menu it actually reboots your 3DS, so you won't be in Luma3DS unless you hold the button to get back into HBL and launch Luma3DS again. If you were actually in Luma3DS it would say "Sys" or "SysE" instead of "Ver."

To me thats saying it will say sys and not emu.

Read step 7 more carefully, I have highlighted the important words:
"If you do not see "Emu" in front of the version number, then you are not on RedNAND. DO NOT UPDATE, FIND WHAT WENT WRONG"

Unfortunately you will need to do a hardmod downgrade (or DSiWare downgrade if you have another, hacked, 3DS).

Important lesson for others: the Plailect guide is updated frequently and can be assumed to be up to date. Any other thread should be assumed to be out of date, unless the date of the reply is after the last edit time of the guide.

My advice would be to not go by what other people say in threads here, and follow the guide from Plailect. His guide specifically told you that if it did not say "emu" then you were NOT in rednand and to NOT update.

I know for the future.

Would a 2ds work just as well, are any steps different.

From what I have read I can get the 2ds super mario bros 2 or the tomodachi version and it should be on a lower firmware.

2DS is identical in steps to the old 3DS. The only thing is, never downgrade it to less than 6.0 (the guide won't require you to, but, just in case you read some thread somewhere that makes it sound like a good idea).

Ok, is it not possible to do the OTP as the guide says it is.

Do you think the chances of buying a new 2ds, one of the bundles above I would get one on 10.6 or less.

Oh sorry, you only have a problem if you format your system while less than 6.0 (for the initial setup process, if less than 6.0 it will ask you to adjust the 3D slider, and as the 2DS does not have one, you can't progress). 2.1 temporarily is fine as you won't be formatting. My comment was more if you tried to have it on say 4.5 permanently to use the DS profile exploit (if one day you formatted, that'd be the end of your 2DS).

Thanks for the advice guys.

I went out and bought a new 2ds, I have successfully installed cfw on that and I am currently downgrading the 3ds that I accidentally upgraded to 11.

I know what the initial issue was now, when emunand9 wants to format the card to install rednand it didnt do it correctly, when I connected it into the pc it was in raw format.

Anyway all sorted now.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Sorry to hear you had to buy a 2ds to do so.

I may as well ask in here, can the fieldrunners game be reused to downgrade or does it have to be purchased everytime.

That post was about something else, don't just assume it applies to your situation.

One last question, now that i've done the full plailect install what happens when a new 3ds firmware comes out, I did a search but couldn't find anything, do you just update like you normally would by going to system settings or is there a different way.

There's hope for a Xenosaga port.

If you used Plailect's guide and ended up with A9LH and Luma, also with A9LH overwrite protection enabled then you update like you would do normally, without any worries.

Yes, I followed the full guide and have both A9LH and Luma, so I would be safe to update in the future then.
