Hardware O3DS shuts down instantly when power button pushed.

Hum ok... I guess the problem is a hardware failure. Don't send it to repair, it would cost more than the actual price of the console

That popping is a short. Since it happens only when pressing the power button I'd start your investigation around that part of the board. As for the stripped screw there are ways to get it off. Though you may need a drill....

So I short circuited my 3ds? Are there any adverse effects I should be worried about? Ive already tried a few, i havent tryed a dremel or a drill. Also if I ever do this again, what screwdriver should I use?

I dont think so... but ill check around. Ive already booked an inspection so hopefully nintendo will find something.

Why not send it to the British hardmoder? Maybe he could open it to see what's wrong and make a nand backup of it with a hardmod...If you can't get it fixed by Nintendo because the price is too prohibitive and you don't find a repair shop around where you live...

You know you can backup your saves and inject them in another 3ds... and you can link your NNID account to your new console and redownload everything through the eshop.

I dont know how to help you, but if we put the video in slow-motion, we can see that the top screen instant-shutdowns and the lower one starts distorting and then the unit powers off. But... Ignoring the sound and the serious problem... Its very convenient!

Oh geez, a stripped screw. I had to repair 2 small old 3DSes and getting the back off was hell, because the screws were stuck. The first one I used a drill to get it off, the second one, the screws were stuck, and it felt like I'd strip it if i continued to try and screw it off. So, I bought some WD-40, and it helped me get the screws off np.

If you mean the back cover plate is stuck on, just buy a pack of cheap pens, take the pen apart until you have only the plastic part left, get a lighter and melt the tip, and jam it into the screw. I opened my N64, Gamecube, and OG Xbox doing that, because I lacked the screw driver bit.

As unfortunate as this is, I find that really convenient if homebrew devs can make that into a feature for regular users to quickly shut down their systems without having to do an additional step of touching the screen.

If you got the cover plate off already, and can see the battery, be careful of the screws back there. They tend to get stuck, and strip very easy, it's like Nintendo over drilled them on. If you cannot unscrew them easily, I suggest using some WD-40, and it'll help get them out easily without stripping them.
