I didnt delete the rxTools folder but I did replace the boot folder in the root. I wanted to make sure lumas was working before I cut off my gateway to my emunand. So do I have to delete the rxTool files to get it to work or am I missing something else? I have all the lumas files in accordance with menuhax I just dont get the one time update to set up lumas in the first place

delete the rxtools.dat

I just checked and that one wasnt in there I still have the launcher.dat in there but doesnt that go with emunand? I was using the latest rxTools so I didnt need the .dat file to use it. Is there anything else I could have missed I still have the folder in there but I assumed the boot.3dsx would automatically go to luma

launcher.dat doesn't belong to emunand, but to rxtools. Try switching out your boot.3dsx for the one in the starter pack.

You don't need to install, just have the folders that are necessary for luma on your SD and it will work from the HBL like rxtools would
ok and would I be doing it from sysnand rxmode or the emunad. Im guessing emunand sine menuhax loads directly into it

Luma can't run from emuNAND.

I recommend installing a boot manager like CtrBootManager so you can autoboot into Luma and still have access to HBL on sysNAND.
Or better yet, install A9LH.

I didnt want to overcomplicate the method since i got menuhax to work but I guess I could just use rxmode for sysnand to go to the homebrew channel and install it. Or is it possible to just go to homebrew from the sysnand by itself? I already have the files transferred for luma just need to get the switch. Its not a big deal at the moment for me since im on the latest emunand I just dont wanna future updates to have a issue since im using rxtools at the moment. I did hear something about changing the boot file to having luma in it I havent tried that yet so maybe that could work

I was also wondering if I could hold a button and get to the homebrew channel from menuhax in order to speed up the process

There's a boot.3dsx inside the menuhax folder of luma archive. Just replace that with your current one in the SD root and it'll automatically boots into Luma.
Remember to put all other Luma files into the SD card as well.

The thing is if your boot.3dsx is replaced with the CFW one you can't access HBL at all unless you edit the *hax payload with a hex editor. So if you ever need to run HBL you'll run into problems again.
You can do what @trinhno said and it should work, but you'll be unable to access HBL.

If it's going straight into rxTools, you must still have rxTools' boot.3dsx. So here's the thing, delete the boot.3dsx on your SD card, redownload Luma, and place the boot.3dsx from Luma into the root of your SD.

Also, why do you still have rxTools folder? If you're planning to switch to Luma, there's no need for it.
