Or we could just ask Nintendo how they converted WarioWare Touched to DSiWare LOL

i compayred the DSIWARE NDS version and the RETAIL NDS version and it was same but alll data files were LZ10 compressed and the header was changed from SLOT1 to NAND0
So there! Just do what they did and we gots DS games on our 3DS'!
Ayyyy, Bada bing!

Well damn you are still on this?
I never knew how DS games worked so I suggested card emulation. But now that I know flashcards patch games on loading, it might be possible to change the patch for SD read/write.
Not likely though, the patch is probably simple and wouldn't work on a SD card.

Is there documentation on how DS flashcards worked?

They worked because they were Slot-1 cards. The DS still read the data as if it was reading a regular game card.

Not quite. Otherwise they wouldn't need to be patched at all.

What patching are you referring to? The only patching I remember from the DS days (Aside from AP patching) was DLDI patching, which was only for homebrew.

On the DS side of things, all reads were still being done from Slot-1. Whether the flashcard needed to do some hackery to properly mount the ROM is irrelevant, as the DS was still just reading off of Slot-1.

IIRC flashcards automatically patch the (commercial) ROM upon loading, so it could work with the flashcard.
There seems to be more to it than whether it's just slot1 or not.

Slot 2 flashcarts were read entirely from slot 2, after the passme started the process. Once the passme loads the flashcart, you can remove it and play games just fine, since games that run on these flashcarts are patched to read from slot 2, which the console has access to anyway. Patches can be mixed too, so you can run a game from slot 2, but save to slot 1 (I did this in the past to temporarily turn my Pokemon Diamond cart into Pokemon Pearl).

This can't be applied to the SD card slot since the original DS doesn't have access to it.

Slot-2 cards require patching, but at the very least, the DS did have access to Slot-2 during normal operation. I'm not sure how much was required to redirect Slot-1 reads to Slot-2, but it was probably a much simpler operation. Based on what others have said regarding this, redirecting Slot-1 to SD in TWL_FIRM is a far more complex process than Slot-1 to Slot-2.

EDIT: I just realized that I pretty much just agreed with you. But yeah. This.

Why are people just going in circles here with buzz words like "enable" and "redirect" with no real substance, if it was as simple as
Code:
Enable_roms_from_sd = 1
then it would be done already, just because you can use words that make a task sound trivial doesnt mean it is
Don't know about you but I won't be bothered to find a fancy word to refer to it.

no the point is that this thread is repeatedly saying the exact same thing thinking that maybe if they word it slightly different suddenly it will work, i.e "maybe we patch it", "maybe we can enable it" "maybe we can redirect it" "maybe we inject it" "maybe we hack it" etc etc

every one of those essentially translates to "i have no fucking clue, but i want to bump the thread/issue"

we all know, people want to pirate DS roms and dont want to spend even $10 to do it, thats fine its all good, but i think people should have figured out by now thats its not just some 2 second patch that nobody thought about, the subject has been talked to death with zero progress no matter how many irrelevant tools get brought up or no matter how many times the question is re-asked

will it happen one day....idk maybe.
will it be because the same handful of people suggested it 2000 times ......i doubt it
