I currently think we should work on how to be able to dump nds games from 3ds's without having to buy a flashcart. I think something like that should be working first for those who can't dump their games currently (unless I'm unaware of one, I'm on a9lh).

Does Uncart not work for nds carts?

there was something on a "what we can do with twl" thread about this. I cant remember the thread, but it talks about Sudoku hax and twltool iirc

The dsiware has no access to cartridges. If I researched correctly, sudokuhax is dsiware so I think it won't work. If I'm correct TWLtool requires a hardmod to a dsi. I'm talking about trying to dump a nds cartridge (which TWLtool doesn't even do if I'm again correct) from only software only on a 3ds.

I dont think you read what i said completely. There is a 3ds thread on here with those things mentioned that has something on dumping nds carts (i put them there for searching)

IIRC, there's supposedly some unused code in uncart that might be able to achieve this, though it would have to be enabled (and probably tweaked some). That being said, even if we do get nds cart dumping working, it has no real bearing on the technical hurdle that exists (basically the game carts expect data to be passed to and from slot-1, dumping of nds carts is just a straight read from it, and provided it's set up correctly, should be doable without booting into TWL). The problem isn't so much reading data from that slot, as it is passing data back to that slot when there's nothing in that slot...we would effectively need a "slot 1 emulator" running in TWL mode, from my understanding, or game specific patches.

DSiWare can actually access cartridges.

Sorry, I misinterpreted what you said.

That's good, I still don't know how to dump nds cartridges though.

My reason for asking about it is that if we do manage it, some would like to dump their nds carts without having to buy a flashcart or download a rom from the internet.

If we were able to dump it right now, there would be no use for it unless you're using it for DSemu on the computer. And why would you play it at 20 FPS on the computer when you have it in cart form?

I guess that dumping it might teach us some extra things on how to actually run it on the 3ds

This has already been possible for several years using an actual ds system. IIRC the only reason we can't use the existing software is because of lack of DLDI patching right now.

Man. This scenario is nostalgic. I remember in the DS' R4 scene, everyone wanted to play GBA titles from the R4. In all the forums, you'd hear "Just buy a supercard for GBA". It even got to the point where we got several (Very incomplete) GBA emulators to run on the DS. Just as it was on the NDS, though.. GBA is bound to AGB_firm. Sure some flashcards had slot-2 support, but that was something very different.

Anyways. I own a few R4s (including 2 original ones), and a few supercards, now. I buy them as gifts for friends 'cause you can literally buy them for 5$. Can't buy them online? Hit up a local flea market or something.
I'd still love to see DS support via CFW or Gateway, some day soon though. And I while "can i play ds games for free?" threads are annoying, I don't think it's very progressive to dismiss it "No, just buy an R4."
I really hope that we'll have proper DS support in the future, though I know it'll run in DS mode, meaning that we won't get any sort of in-game cheats or savestates like some R4 clones offer. R4's definitely the way to go, though. Do it now, while there are still retailers. Nintendo and Paypal have been cracking down on R4 retailers.

Primarily for use when someone finds out how to run the backup on the 3ds, its kind of hard for me to play backups when I don't have a tool to obtain it first. (there are tools but almost every tool requires something I don't have and would need to buy)

I knew it was done but I was trying to ask if someone could make one specifically for 3ds in a software form because I can't use a non 3ds ds and even then I don't own a flashcart for it.

In theory couldn't fa cartridges go on as long as the maker wants? Unless there just shipped from a main warehouse I mean people could legit just try and sell there own copy of a cheaper version lmao like the things you see at a flea market

I don't see anyone "nagging" anyone else to buy one, that being said, as of right now, this IS the one and only currently working method of getting what people are after, and will likely be for some time. If people don't want to wait months, if not years for some sort of slot 1 emulation to be built out, this is really your only option. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see this happen eventually, however I have a sneaking suspicion that most people want to play their games now, not some months down the road.
