I can understand. Even if we think of it as harmless, it's still not something that's supposed to be possible. And when people start doing things to their games that they shouldn't be able to do, it almost always leads to bad things... I can think of a way someone can weaponize it in private battles if it really does sync up there. Said person could even be smart enough to find a way to force colors to sync in matchmade games. Or they might just use Colorizer as a sort of baby step and then decide they actually want to start breaking online once they know how.
Not to mention, when people are doing stuff they weren't meant to do, there's always a chance they could break the game in a more literal sense and screw up some vital code somewhere, even if by accident.
The first paragraph of that is total BullPie,
First off, there is no way, that anyone could weaponize this without hindering themselves, if they make barely distinguishable colors, they are most certainly not able to play correctly with it themselves.
Second of, this is the only actual /effect/ this even has on onlineplay and only in private battles, which from the total ground up, should be free territory because nothing's on the line and it's only with friends and trustworthy users not to mention that anyone who doesnt play it fair can be easily get rid of, it's not really Nintendos job, here.
Third, nobody and i mean NOBODY will find a way to actually also sync it in randoms because the only way it could sync is if a machine takes more of the hostfunctions hence runs slightly more dedicated, which is the case in privates but has yet to reported by anyone in randoms (won't happen)
Good luck hacking the variables nintendos servers determine when your console (which your hacks run on) doesn't even get a voice in the matter
And lastly, if you take colorizer as a "babystep" for more serious splatoon hacking, you might aswell also ban "hello world" tutorials for homebrew, there is literally 3 values being poked each second, here.
And knowing them helps nothing but where to assume other stuff in memory, which isn't that hard to begin with. Not rocket science...
(Don't wanna say the program is useless, i love it, just naming the child)
The second paragraph could be kind of true, tho. If you really got some kiddies trying this stuff on the fly, they could eventually end up breaking other peoples saves and rendering their progress useless. We know it is possible through avatars in plaza, might also be possible with some stats.
But again THAT'S it, because no other data from your game can possible reach or modify theirs permanently. And every serious hacker/modder worth their salt makes his hacks in a safe Environment before publishing them.
