You don't need emunand with liomajor's workaround for current A9LH setups.

I am using my Gateway3DS just fine with updated sysNAND now, using the 3.7.1 Launcher.dat, I still however, use Luma3DS to update though, cause I don't trust Gateway lol.
Quite interesting. Seems like a bit of a weird solution for now due to the Hard Mod requirement (is that due to the OTP req.?).

Currently the solution as discussed other than the Gateway option you and cearp suggested is friendly to all users, but I'm glad my gateway card may still have a use for some time until the feature is developed.

I can second this, GW doesn't have FIRM protection.
FIRM protection? Sorry this is the first I've seen this term.

EDIT: Another question, with the aforementioned Gateway solution, is A9LH protected as Luma3DS is?

Not a requirement, just recommended you do if something goes wrong. I used it just fine and don't have a hardmod. You still need your OTP.bin that you should have gotten following the A9LH guide.

FIRM protection is what allows us to safely update, as A9LH lives in the FIRM0/FIRM1 partitions. Luma3DS has this.

I understand now. How do you switch back and forth between Luma and GW using this process if you don't mind me asking?

EDIT: I noticed the New Jersey tag...you must be awake at 5AM as well.

Like caerp said, just button presses. I made mine so that pressing the down-pad on boot takes me to GW mode, while not holding anything just uses arm9loaderhax.bin (which is Luma3DS is my case)

And that's basically it, sure beats the old workaround of having to keep either a 9.2 sysNAND or emuNAND. :)

And yes, I'm awake at 5AM... lol

there is no solution that equals gw's cheat support - it's very very cool!
real time search, saving, very useful and powerful.
it would be nice if ntr had something like it, but i have gw anyway and now thanks to @liomajor we can easily use gw with our a9lh set up :)

how easily is it? lets say i have a n3ds on a9lh with luma cfw only updated sysNAND , i have no emuNAND on my n3ds.

how do i get my GW card working on it for the cheat function without modding anything related to my current setup?

i would not want to merge anything with my n3ds a9lh as it is already working as it should.
those stage bin files modding what are those.

Wow. It turned out better than I expected!

I'm still trying it out, but seeing it work puts things in perspective. The files add a new combination (X+Y) to your current setup to load Gateway's Launcher.dat file. The other ones (X+A) loads a separate "arm9loaderhax.bin" in your "\a9lh" folder, and DEFAULT loads your current Luma arm9loaderhax.bin

Only have to add the files stated in the post, and there is no difference in anything as far as I can see other than an extra button combination due to adding an extra check for a different button combination to load either the Launcher.dat or 2 other arm9loaderhax.bin files as the 3DS boots before checking the next button combinations the next file checks for.

Example: Hold X+Y on boot -> Launcher.dat -> Hold R or L to load the specific Gateway hot key menu.

Hold nothing -> luma's arm9loaderhax.bin -> Hold select -> Luma settings.

EDIT: If you read further into the post, he gives other options for which button combination you'd like if X+Y isn't your cup of tea.

Well for updating, just use Luma3DS, as that def has Firm0/Firm1 protection, so updating sysNAND with Luma3DS will be safe, can't say the same if you try and do this on GW mode.

To add to this, liomajor also linked alternate payload_stage1 files that changes the button combinations.

I personally used payload_stage1-DOWN-UP.bin. Just pick whichever one works best for you, and rename it to payload_stage1.bin, overwriting the other default one that was provided in the other zip.
You'll need your personal console specific OTP.bin that you should have gotten from the A9LH guide, and you can also get the firm0.bin / firm1.bin / secret_sector.bin from Part 5 of the A9LH guide.

Small note about NTR, while if you make/load cheats into the cheat menu, game multiplayer will not work
If you just add it as another menu item I am of the understanding it will work
And if youre looking for save edits maybe check out my program to see if it helps :D

Something I didn't realize until after trying to switch the button setup, you must rerun SafeA9LHInstaller each time you change the files in the A9LH folder to add new hot keys and new files. (Probably best to add the arm9loaderhax.bin he supplies in the A9LH folder in case you want to add files -> the arm9loaderhax.bin he gives runs the SafeA9LHinstaller.dat in the root of your SD card to speed up the process of reinstallation).

i think i will just stick to my current setup.
i will just use NTR with my n3ds and GW on my og3ds which has emuNAND in it already.
thanks.

Well, I was never able to save up any cheats I had found! xP

There is a way to get NTR to cheat online, it's the cheat.plg that's compiled to choose whether or not you're allowed online.
If you have a cheat.plg that enables online support you're free to cheat online :)
Else if whoever built the plugin used a source without online support then online doesn't work.
Where can I get such a cheat.plg?
