I thank you for giving me some light about what's up right now. In all seriousness; wat i heard was :... ....don't worry.. update sysnand... accident. You got me hooked. What is this, I need.
If i do go for the a9lh thing are games going to run any smoother?
No, games won't run any smoother, unless you use an N3DS, and use Luma3DS Clock+L2 feature, that improves performance on older games, though not every game is compatible, as some people report games like Final Fantasy Explorers not working with that feature on.

Here's a link to someone who did a minor test on performance and battery life with that feature on, read the comments of people reporting some games just have problems with it on.

Sounds like you have the NTR firmware.bin inside your Luma folder, I overlooked that at one point, and had a similar issue, removing it, fixed my issues of booting into GW Menu/Mode from an A9LH Luma3DS 9.2 sysNAND. //

Edit: thank Temptress Cerise, yes you are right and my test confirms it, by removing /luma/firmware.bin (after successful installation of a9lh) the GW menu/mode can also be accessed thru hbl on a9lh installed 9.2 sysnand, apart from 9.2 emunand.

[ Below is obsolete previous post:

GW menu can only be launched using GW emunand 9.2, but not by a9lh installed sysnand 9.2 or by rednand 9.2.

" Because GW.3dsx has to be launched from a 9.0 NATIVE_FIRM. You can't load a 10.x NAND with a 9.x FIRM. "

cf. https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-how-to-use-gw-luma3ds-a9lh.424117/page-2#post-6361401

In my a9lh installation last week, I finally chose restoring a 10.7 GW emunand for use in the downgrade during subsequent a9lh installation. ]

Well, if you use A9LH Luma3ds and your sysnand OR your emunand are on 9.0-9.2 the firm loaded will be that version.
Yes, you could have a 11.0 Emunand with a 9.2 Sysnand and launch GW menu from A9LH Luma3ds Sysnand. Optionally you could set up Decrypt9 and Uncart for Luma's builtin bootloader.

With that setup you could:
A) Boot GW Menu from the 9.2 Sysnand because it has a 9.2 FIRM
B) Boot a GW Emunand from Luma3ds (OR from your Gateway Card? Someone try this)
C) Have signature patches on Sysnand.
D) Have access to Decrypt9 and Uncart in any version
E) FIRM update protection (even from GW mode?)

Urbanshadow,

// I recopied launcher.dat to root of sdcard and the pair of GW 3dsx files to /3ds/GW/ from the 3.7.1Beta archive, but still unable to launch GW menu from a9hl installed sysnand 9.2 thru oot3dhax hbl. Strange.

Update: i cloned the above 9.2 sysnand to emunand.

Yes, GW menu through oot hbl can run in emunand 9.2 .
But why GW menu through the same oot hbl CANNOT run in a9lh installed sysnand 9.2 ? //

My Gateway setup is 9.2 A9LH SysNAND, with Menuhax+CTRBootManager into GW Emunand to use my Gateway3DS.

As for B, what exactly are you asking to try? If I'm on the Home Menu of my SysNAND with Luma3DS, I could use the Gateway .cia launcher and get into my emunand like that, or use browserhax or any game cartridge entry point as well, though menuhax+CTRBootManager is the most elegant solution for me. Or are you asking if I can boot into Emunand with Luma3DS, as if it was a normal emunand? Yeah, I can do that, just hold L, and it'll boot me into Luma3DS Emunand mode, however my Gateway3DS red card won't work. But yeah, I can def boot into either GW's CFW or Luma's.

As far as I'm aware, FIRM protection only matters on the SysNAND.

As far as I'm aware, FIRM protection only matters on the SysNAND.

1. Do a correct A9LH install.
2. Setup A9LH Luma3ds.
3. Setup a 9.2 Sysnand and a whatever version GW emunand (11.0 preferred, but not mandatory).
4. Try to boot GW emunand with Luma3ds.
5. Install HBL_loader cia to Sysnand for HBL or install the gateway cia launcher.
6. Try to boot GW emunand from gateway cia launcher or GW.3dsx in A9LH Luma3ds 9.2 Sysnand

FIRM protection matters everywhere with A9LH. It's true that emunand's FIRM0/FIRM1 partitions are not used (afaik) as A9LH Luma3ds boots the FIRM stored in CTRNAND partition. But, with some trickery you should be able to preserve a correct 9.2 FIRM0/FIRM1 partition in your emunand, be able to dump it for security reasons and of course installing it to your sysnand's FIRM0/FIRM1 for a correct A9LH uninstall, being able to recover a vanilla 9.2 system.

1/2) I am not sure this applies to me. I do have a proper A9LH setup on my Cosmo Black 3DS system.
4) Anyways, I am able to boot into GW Emunand just find with Luma3DS, by holding L at cold boot.
5/6) The menuhax+ctrbootmanager method, is basically the same as the HBL Loader.cia or Gateway.cia Launcher methods.

I actually keep my NAND backups stored on three drives, as well as two online cloud storage places, but I can see why it would matter for others to have a proper vanilla 9.2 system dump, though not everyone practices keeping backups.

So there you go. GW emunand can be launched from a9lh after all.
I am no GW user and I barely know how it works so please mind that.

You can now use Luma3ds included bootloader to optionally load decrypt9 with start and uncart with select.
This should allow you to recover any nand (sys or emu) from a ctrnand corruption/brick and make backups of your games to use GW card legitly.

Normmatt and liomajor also figured out that the GW a9lh implementation jumps to B800000 in the Launcher.dat, and besides that doesn't seem to do anything special. iirc liomajor also made a working implementation of dark_samus's fork of a9lh that allowed you to switch between most arm9 payloads and GW's arm9 payload depending on the button you hold at startup.

People really overcomplicate this. You can have your A9LH SysNAND on 11.0. As long as you have 9.2 EmuNAND, you can still boot GW. This is what I do.

But regardless, the op wants to ditch GW.

Well, just got to the part 5 of Plailect guide. What now? I don't really know what are the possibilities. I want to use luma3DS as main CFW. But I am confused - so Luma can be used on sysnand aswell as on emunand? Can I use my dumped GW emunand for Luma?

Yes you could.
I was setting up some hours ago a setup: 9.2 Sysnand and 11.0 EmuNand (GW) and used Luma to autoboot to my emuNand instead of sysNand.
If You pressed L at boottime, then Luma will start the sysNand (and if you have menuhax there..autostart gateway and boot the 11.0 EmuNand, GW Mode)

And if I want to get rid of emunand? Can I use GW emunand instead of emunand_original to restore it to sysnand?
