I have a few questions about A9LH and Gateway... I keep seeing threads on here about A9LH, but don't know much about it. What is it and what is it for? Is it a CFW? Are there benefits to using A9LH?

Also, I read on Gateway's site that they will support A9LH? How would that work with Gateway?

Thoughts/help on all this GREATLY appreciated and thanks in advance :)

About the Gateway question, it's still a mystery since the beta testers did not leak any relevant information. You can follow this thread for more info.

Regarding A9LH, it is not a CFW but a kernel exploit that enables a Nintendo 3DS/2DS/N3DS user to load stuff before the system boots, the benefits being:

• You can load a CFW directly on boot (coldboot)
• Vanilla-like boot when using a CFW (6-8 seconds of boot time, so your console loads a patched firmware like it would load an original one)
• No need for EmuNAND anymore, you can be on SysNAND with always the latest version installed (so you can access online without FW spoof and stuff)
• You have brick protection (software side) since A9LH boots even before your NAND is initialized. So you can flash backups in case something goes wrong

Not sure how to proceed... I have both Gateway and SC DSTwo, want to be able to use both still. Thoughts/help appreciated :)
I would install A9LH (arm9loaderhax if you don't know) now (you can use Luma3DS for the time being), and wait for Gateway's official support of A9LH (which will supposedly be released soon).

Nah, for now word is they don't provide a compatible A9LH payload (see the recent reports on this thread). So better wait for things to clear up a bit I guess.

I didn't even see that! Jesus Christ that's a bad idea! An A9LH installer, specifically for Gateway. Wow. Don't install that! Gateway is certainly shady; is anyone really sure we can trust them? And if you don't trust them 100%, why would you install something as major as A9LH made by them? I wouldn't.

Maybe if the demand is high enough, they'll eventually release a separate payload that boots their launcher for those who installed the open source A9LH implementations, or... maybe they just don't care because they already have your money, and they know for sure that since you can do pretty much everything without a flashcart nowadays, they won't be selling loads of carts anymore.

For now, installing A9LH by following Plailect's guide using the community payloads and then setting up a 9.2 EmuNAND to use the GW with is an okay solution I guess. At least, you won't be fully dependent on the red cart in this scenario.

It's not like Gateway is going to be selling very many more carts anyway. Think about it; the people who are waiting for Gateway are the ones who bought the cart already. Everyone else is using community tools because they're free, updated frequently (Luma3DS is updated by the hour), and downright better. Therefore, those who have been exposed to the Holy Grail won't go back to Gateway, and the ones who haven't (I.E. Gateway users) are just going to wait for the update. So, who in this scenario is buying a new cart? No one. I know there are exceptions to this, and everyone has their own opinion...but if I'm correct, there isn't much in it for Gateway anymore.

Actually that's not 100% correct.

I've been on a9 since day one pretty much, but have been patiently waiting for a GW a9 loader since then, because I like to drag and drop games onto a flashcard most of the times, I don't like to install every single game that comes out, due to laziness.

So, I've tasted the Holy Grail for a long time now, but I still like to go slumming cause its just easier.

The way I see it, GW needs to make a public a9 payload that works on all a9 setups, regardless of CFW build, and they should do what they are doing which is to create their own stuff.

I can still see GW selling more cards, because no matter what, a drag and drop flashcard is always gonna be easier and faster than installing cias, regardless of how you install your cias via grabber like CiaAngel or via traditional method, I can always see a scenario where a Flashcard is useful.

I respect your opinion, and actually partially agree with it. I myself, believe it or not, have a Gateway cart that I own, and even use for nostalgia I suppose. Regardless, there's no arguing Gateway trumps everyone with the simplicity of their product's usage. Think about it; to play launch Gateway, you need simply one file on the root of your SD card (before performing whichever exploit), and to play a backup, you simply need to drag-'n'-drop it onto the Micro SD card in the red card. No matter which way you spin it, Gateway is great with simplicity. Now, needing the red card literally every time you boot your 3ds will SUCK, though.... (Not that I'll be uninstalling delebile's A9LH and installing Gateway's, but you get the point.)

The best of both worlds bro...the best of both worlds..

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice

    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    it's dumb

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
