Hey! .3DS roms are way more convenient than pesky CIAs!
Gateway is a good way to make your 3ds into a doorstop in just a few steps, I kinda need one right now

So I should get a Brickwait and a 2ds, then update to 11.0 and brick my system so I have a really stable doorstop, right?
Yes.
Then buy a Sky3DS and beg on GBATemp for a new arm9 kernel exploit.
Don't worry, it will come eventually Soon™ :)
You just gotta post one more thread about it.
It'll be released Soon!
The more threads you make, the higher the chances of the exploit being made are!

I believe those arguing GW (or Sky for that matter I guess) is useless just don't get it, or they are inherently insecure to the fact that they have to deal with a pretty major trade-off with CFW (Big time waster)

No matter how easy and quick it is to use .3ds in that native format, the CFW ONLY advocates will argue it's only time, that is not a caveat!

Fortunately those of use with GW's can use BOTH solutions if we so choose. So if a GW user has 1 game that is easier to deal with (DLC + updates, etc) they can use CIA in that one instance, but everything else is native .3ds files.

We get the best of both worlds. Not just one like CFW.

What is with you kids? Who is the peasant? GW users are +1 due to the GW, CFW users are -1.

Just quit with the stupid master race BS. Because you actually don't have as many options as GW users do. Are you really that blind?

Youre focused on .3ds vs .cia... as if thats the only difference between GW and CFW.

I get to leave my r4 in the slot instead of swapping when I wanna play DS. I have A9LH, so I have brick protection. I can play online on the newest firmware with no need for bypasses or bullshit. I could sit here for a while listing out more advantages..

So as far as im concerned.. GW - 0, A9LH - Infinite
GW negates its only pointed advantage by having a cost to it, and just generally being garbage.

I remember seeing somewhere that you can use .3ds roms without a flashcart using a9lh. how?
since almost no one answered your question and just did rampage...
you need to convert the .3ds into a cia and install it, i never tried it so i don't know if you can convert homebrew .3ds files
there is 2 or even more programs to convert .3ds files into .cia

may this help you:

Well hell if you read this far.. you should have seen OP is already aware you can convert to CIA, and was just curious as to the technical possibility of running .3ds directly from a9lh now or in the future.

A9lh master race, bitches.

Who can't use .3ds files. I don't get the logic from you guys how that would make you feel superior. (when there is something you cannot do)

Edit:

Actually if you are referring to just A9LH, I would agree fully.

A9LH is the way to go, regardless of if you use GW or CFW.

Gateway is far behind with their features. I own a Gateway. Haven't used it in close to a year, but I own one. ROMs vs CIAs is another matter, but overall, I find CIAs more convenient due to not needing to apply a private header.

Gateway Advantages:
-Don't need to convert ROMs to CIAs.
-Gateshark codes (though, the same cheats can be applied with NTR).

Gateway Disadvantages:
-Payed.
-Requires a flashcart to use at all.
-Doesn't support Arm9loaderhax (currently).
-Extremely slow updates (still no downgrader; menuhax took forever to implement).

CFW Advantages:
-Free.
-Arm9loaderhax.
-Doesn't require a flashcart to boot.
-Consistent updates with new features.

CFW Disadvantages:
-Doesn't support ROMs.

Overall, I think CFW's advantages are better. I switched to CFW when Menuhax was released and haven't looked back.

Guys, keep this thread civil. Gateway can't do anything about the fact that they are so slow in development and aren't making advances into making their market any better
you might want to get rid of that sig before a mod notices

was just making it clear and trying to being more helpful
i don't really understand why we can't simple redirect the reading...
the psp, the wii and i think the ps3, used the redirecting of data...
in early CFW you would require discs on the drives and i remember psp even made laser reading noises...

and why can't a homebrew read the games from a DS MODE flashcart...
i mean, using a DS card as an adapter without using the flashcart firmware\application
the homebrew just had to fetch the rom inside the micro sd card..
but i think i know the reason this is not possible...
ds mode carts run at a different clock speed than 3ds carts.. it would most likely bootleneck...

Except that you currently cant use GW and A9LH together. If you could, which SOON you can, then thatd be another story. But if its GW vs A9LH/CFW... GW gets no love.

I am not arguing that CFW has no benefits. It cannot play games in scene native release format, which is a big negative for many. (The reason I assume people keep buying GW and even clones)

If you have GW, you can use BOTH solutions for maximum benefit.

So there is no disadvantages. And the only reason I am even pointing that out, is because the CFW zealots make it seem like their is no use to GW, when there is. You can use native .3ds files. (And other features I hear people talk about that I do not use, like the cheat engine)

But you can use both together now.

You can still boot into GW mode when using A9HL + CFW.

But it's not like YOU MUST RUN .3ds files. .cia works as well. And there's a way to cheat without GW.

You can use gateway with a9lh but it's annoying and you have to keep emunand. I do it when I want to use their cheat engine.

Again your missing the point.

With CFW, you have no option to use .3ds files natively.

With GW + CFW you can use whatever you want, you don't have that option with CFW.
